We did NOT get the house.

The landlady called yesterday morning & said she just didn't think it was

going to work out. She needs to do some things with the house that we need

her not to do. We are looking into the possibility of a lawsuit for

discriminating against Mikey. Altho we don't want to live there now, of

course.

So we are busily looking for other houses since we were planning to move in

a month & now have noplace to move TO.

We found one today that is just wonderful. It's in the middle of all these

hills & woods. The yard is HUGE. It's not fenced but it's a very quiet

rural kind of area -- but it's maybe 5 minutes to the highway & close to

everything we go to! Also we can teach Star to keep Mikey in the yard. The

house is not quite as large as I had hoped, but it has a greenhouse that we

might be able to use as a playroom in the winter. I don't know how hot they

get. (I have a brown dry crumbly thumb; use as a greenhouse is not a good

option.) It's just a 2 bedroom & no basement. The living area is quite

large though.

We should hear about it Monday. If we are approved for this one, it's the

one we'll take. The location & the yard make it worth it not being as large

as we'd wanted. It's still bigger than the apartment.

I got a really good feeling from the guy who showed it to us. He was quite

impressed with Star. He said they take pets on a case-by-case basis; they

don't want people leaving their dogs tied out in the yard & that kind of

thing. We told him we have a cat & he asked some questions about her, then

said, " Cat? I didn't hear anything about a cat. " Later Matt said something

about putting the litterbox there and he said it again. So that was pretty

cool. They rent a lot down by campus to students so I am hoping...We've

got a good rental history here & we are planning to fix the place up after

we leave. Our credit is absolutely awful...we got our van from one of those

" If you've got a job, you have credit! " places. Nobody else would give us a

loan. So we'll see what happens.

We've applied for one other place & we've looked at quite a few. Matt's

going to look at another one tonight. It's a 3 bedroom with a basement and

a fenced yard, in a good location, but a little more than we really wanted

to pay.
