Hi Dave;

Its probably a bit of both... realizing you're mortal - and a mid

life crisis (i found a turbo charged convertible to be the cure for

the mid life crisis) :-)

its also the let down... when you get the initial diagnosis, and then

surgery, and RAI and all this stuff to learn and do and be upset

about, the panic, the tears, the denial, the action , the worry, the

surgery to prepare for, the RAI to prepare for.. and once its all

done.. its just you, and your Levoxyl and life... and its (at least

it was for me) a let down.. like " now what do i do?? " and its a

feeling that also (at least for me) falls into the category of " this

too shall pass " ...

I don't know if others have experienced it that way....

Well, I've only been on levoxyl for three days, but I feel so wonderful. I mean

not physically yet, but emotionally. I've already gotten my hair cut and and

ready for the new me. I'm ready!!! I'm looking forward to what is to be...I

don't want to look back (even tho I know I will have to). I look at this as a

speed hump on the road called life... Think positive...do something new for

you!!! I am only 30 with two small kids...I can't go out and buy a new car and

I'm no where near a mid life crisis...but darn it...I'm celebrating life

Amy and Barb -

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll wait until spring for the convertible.

Fall is here in Massachussetts and that means show tire shopping...

Maybe it's time for some vacation - I've been back into work full-swing

with no time off since my RAI a month ago.

And here's something you might find depressing too, Barb - my company is

heaving out the OpenVMS computer systems that I've been doing software

development work on for the last 10 years. And replacing them with Win

NT.

Amy, I love your attitude.. " a bump in the road called life. " That attitude will

take you far.

Dave, could your thyroxine dose need adjusting? Someone correct me if I'm wrong

here, but I " think " that too much med can make you as tired as too little. Could

also be the other things you & Barb mentioned.

Personally, my recent hypo trip was not so bad. I walked each day and this

helped all but the memory lapses.

Thanks to ALL here for helping me through it.

I hope I hear from some of you. Thanks,

Grammy D. I walked every too, while hypo...still walking every day...but my

endo told me to walk everyday to keep the little bit of energy that I had left.

He said that was the only think helping. I walked all but one day during hypo

hell. I agree, it helped... all but the memory loss.

Oh, hon, that's horrible! I know, though, where you are coming from. I,

too, had an emotional time of it. Got very depressed. I remember on New

Year's Day, 2000, I was so depressed that I didn't talk to anyone for the

entire day. I just sat in a chair and didn't say a word and didn't eat or

anything. And I would cry, have anger fits, lots of that sort of stuff.

I'm usually happ and smiling but not through hypo. could you perhaps talk

to the man you love and try to get some resolution? Explain that yuou

weren't yourself and see what he says?

Hugs and sympathy!

I had to do that, too, increase my dose of antidepressant. It only

marginally helped, too.

Hugs!

Maybe my levoxyl dose IS out of wack. I have lost 20 pounds since my last

ENDO visit (and his using my weight to calculate dosage). This is a

result me going on a diet for the first time in my life to get back to my

pre-thyroid-disease size. But I suppose starting a diet at the same time

as an RAI is really asking for pain!!!

Oh well, 20 pounds down and 20 more to go!!!

Hello

, you say you 'think' that taking too much thyroxine can make you

tired... I am currently taking T3 while I wait for my RAI. My consultant

increased my dose by 25% (now on 100 mcg tertroxin) 10 days ago, I felt fine

for a few days but the last week has been dreadful. I'm doing a great

impresson of Rip Van Winkle, my legs are like lead, my feet don't belong to

me and the memory has gone. Does anyone know if this is usual or am I just

getting old ?

While I'm here I'd like to ask if anyone has any info on the effect that RAI

has on fertility. I know that this is a bit personal so if anyone wants to

reply privately that's ok by me.

Thanks for keeping me sane, I've felt so much better (mentally) since

finding this group.

,

I've been creeping along the road to suppression for about a year now and every

time my dose is raised I get minor hyper symptoms about ten days to two weeks

after I begin a new dose. These go away after a week or two and are no longer

present when I go to get my levels checked after about 6 weeks on the new dose,

so I don't report them. The last raise in dosage was a 20 % hike to 150. The

second week after raising the dosage, my thigh and back muscles left on vacation

and failed to take me with them. Walking up stairs or climbing hills were

all-consuming events. This, too, resolved in less than a week. I don't think

it is unusual, although I don't know what the mechanism is that allows your

body to compensate for the new hormone levels. I'd like to know. Anyone with

any hints to guide my reading?
