Guest guest
That's a good point. I made the assumption she was talking about a cereal that is on the Good List or included in "Foods you can reintroduce to your diet" list because she stated she was following the guidelines. Also, SBD is not a low carb diet and we don't count carbs on it. I agree - I doubt Honey Bunches of Oats would be SBD-friendly (oh, how I wish it were!!!!). I eat one serving. But then I'm not a big fan of dry cereal! LOL Cereal >>I would say keep the cereal in the morning just to get started offright after fasting all nightWhat kind of cereal did she say she was eating? Cereal can be a bigsaboteur of a low-carb diet. Even if you think it's a good healthycereal, it could still be LOADED with carbs. Things like Honey Bunchesof Oats, regular Total, etc. all have 25 or more grams of carbs perserving. And who really eats just one serving of cereal?? I know Idon't!! You need to check the labels before you buy your cereal. Ihave found Total Protein -- it only has 8 net grams of carbs per servingand it is actually pretty good. Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. Guest guest
THe cereal I ate was cheerios, wheat chex, special K, or shredded wheat. Today I ate the All Bran with extra fiber. It was gross--like eating kibble or hamster food. I read the labels very carefully to be sure they are low sugar and carbs with high fiber. If they aren't I don't eat them. Guest guest
This is a list of cereals from Ami on another list. I believe the original source was the SBD website. (Please note the resemblance to a hamster menu!) I do love both the Kashi cereals and they are loaded with protein. Guest guest
Do you like hot cereals at all? I have gotten hooked on Oat Bran by Hodgson Mills. It's a bit like Malt o Meal but nuttier and more flavorful. I add a little Splenda and some Smart Balance. Re: Cereal Thanks for the suggestions--I will give Kashi a try. Guest guest
I rotate among 3 different cereals. I like Cheerios since you get a full cup as an exchange; you get more puffed wheat actually (1 1/2 cups) but I am not sure what puffed wheat is and I keep forgetting to check it out at the store. My other cereals of choice are 2/3 c cooked oatmeal (the 3 minute old fashioned kind) and Total Raisin Bran. These are the only kinds I ever eat now -- the dry Total makes a good filling snack too.
