Dear Lise,

I'm in Oz - where abouts are you? I'm about 1 1/2 hrs south of Sydney. I

joined this group about 6 months ago and it has been a real lifeline to me -

wonderful ladies who listen and support and share experiences. I was diagnosed

in 97 - I'm now nearly 47 and have been in wait and watch mode. I can

understand how you can feel lost and lonely in your search for answers. There

is just so much information out there to digest, but I have found that the

wealth of information I have taken the time to learn here and on/in the

sites/books/publications suggested, has really helped me to feel much more in

control of my fibroid situation. Don't feel alone! The women here, will, I

know, help with any questions/feelings you have. I don't really know how many

other Aussies are out there, but I have had replies to my earlier e-mails

suggesting doctors/natural healing remedies etc., from this side of the world

too. I haven't found any other site here that is similar to the UFG. Hopefully

soon.

If you are willing, could you tell us a bit more about what kind of fibroids you

have and how disabling your symptoms are? You will have been reading the recent

posts, no doubt, that have discussed the use of progesterone - I can't advise

you there as I am taking no medication/natural remedies at present. There is

another group called HealingFromFibroidsNaturally if you are

interested. Also Johanna Skillings book about fibroids - I'm pretty sure we can

get it at the library here in Oz. I bought the book " What your doctor may not

have told you about premenopause " by Dr Lee to read - information about

hormones and progesterone too. I believe Carla's website has links to other

information about fibroids too. So if you have the time to spare, if you

haven't already, gather as much info as you can. Please feel free to e-mail me

directly if you want.

Best,

Mandy

PS I didn't know anyone with fibroids either (friends, relations etc) until I

started asking (thanks to a suggestion from Sydney here on the group) - just had

a girls lunch out and found out 4 women there have had/have fibroids - they

would probably never have mentioned it had I not....so we had a lot to discuss!

>Hello to everyone,

Thankyou to whoever for starting this group - I have found the

information HUGELY helpful in my new position as an owner of fibroids!

For all my web surfing I have not found anything similar in Oz and

wonder if anyone knows anything or if there are any aussies in this

group.

A brief history .... 43 years old, four children and have just been

diagnosed with multiple fibroids & enlarged endometrium (vaginal

ultrasound) All came about because of excessive bleeding, low iron

levels and discomfort. I am happy with my dr however she suggested

(of course!) a hysterectomy as the best answer. I don't really want

to do that not for any reason other than not wanting to put my body

thru' all that invasive nastiness. This has been going on for a few

years (I now realise!) but past drs have not looked into why I was

always tired, had heavy bleeding etc etc.

I have started on progesterone (very low dose) Only one day so far so

have yet to see what happens.

I was under the impression that oestrogen was the culprit in fibroid

growth but after reading lots of your letters I see it might not

necessarily be the case. After looking further I find that dairy and

lot fed meats are a main danger in excess dietary hormones ... makes

sense that we should try to avoid them ... however as you all know

there is not enough study happening to give us clear answers! Growth

hormones are pumped into our dairy cattle, chickens, lambs and beef,

so are we in turn eating our way to fibroids?

I find it all very confusing and interesting at the same time. I am

an alternative healing therapist and am looking at what could be done

non medically ... diet and exercise seem to be the main answers so

far. Anyone else looking at alternatives?

Thanks for reading all this .... :)

I know no one with fibroids at the moment .. having recently moved

towns I also don't know the medical people here either. So am feeling

a little lost and lonely in my search for answers!

Plus because I am in Oz no one is in the chat room at my awake time!

Would love to have some contact.

Lisé.<
