>>>KAREN WROTE>>>My #2 pet peeve is people who try to control me or make me conform to their definition of "normal" or "correct" behavior. And no, I am NOT the one at SRD who shouted out a comment (albeit all positive ones) for every graduate that walked across the stage.

ROTFLMAO!!! Oh good, that wasn't you, because I'm the controlling person who got up in front of 2000 people and marched back to the lady and asked her to please control her outbursts because she was greatly offending A LOT of people. LOL! For those of you who weren't at SRD....During the last general session, when the individuals who were being honored on stage for various things to include before and after parade, KOPS longevity, royalty, etc., there was a very excited woman who was, in my opinion, making cat calls at the participants. She had a VERY loud voice and was sure to make these comments AFTER the audience hooted and hollered and applauded. So, it was usually dead quiet when she yelled out "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL", etc. to the ladies, and " GIVE HIM A HUG" among other things, whenever a man was being honored. Now, if this was a man shouting out to the participants being honored, it would have been considered harassment, and he would have probably been decked by someones husband if he suggested at the top of his lungs that a male area coordinator who was congratulating the honoree should 'give her a hug'. It was funny the first time she made a comment, but tempers in the audience around me started flaring when we had to listen to it, practically non-stop for an hour. This was a VERY special, once in a lifetime event for many of the honorees, and SRD participants. People started looking back in her direction glaring at her everytime she loudly made a comment, as she was really ruining the moment for many of us. I have no problem with people expressing their opinions and I don't expect everyone to conform to my definition of normal and correct, but there comes a time when too much is too much, and there is a right time and place for everything. I was very nice to her, and just said something along the lines of..."I can appreciate your excitement. We're all very happy for the honorees, but would you please tone down your comments because you're really offending alot of people and ruining an otherwise wonderful experience for many." I repeated the "please". Now, that is almost verbatim for what I said to her. All I can say is once a teacher, always a teacher! Well, I can tell you that I got a "go to hell" look from her, BUT had NUMEROUS people thank me as I made my way back to my seat and also after the event was over. Do ya still luv me, ??

As far as grocery shopping goes, I've always been self-conscious about what is in my cart. If my teens are having a party, I'll give them money to go buy their own junk food. I need to care a little less about what others are thinking, because it's really nobody's business.

Speaking of what's in your cart.......I gotta tell ya - we were at a TOPS workshop in Jourdanton and when it was over I headed to Walmart - only to get a call from my teenaged son, with a LONG list of junk food that he wanted me to bring home "since I was there anyway" LOL soooooo.....I'm walking through the store, talking to him on the cell and putting his requests in the cart. (never thought twice about it) ROFLOL that is.....until a slew of people who were at the same TOPS workshop that I was, happened to come in as I was heading to the checkout! It never occurred to me how it looked until I saw them! I was stumbling all over myself and making a HUGE point of telling them that all that crap was really for my son and NOT for me LOLOLOL!! (I'm "real" sure they believed me! I can just imagine the tongue wagging I was getting when I was out of ear shot LOL) When I got home I relayed the story to my son and told him the next time he needed me for a junk food run.....forget it!!

>>>GEORGE WROTE>>>People who tell the same stories over and over and over and over and over again...

Ohmygosh, that's me! When I asked about pet peeves for the QOTD, I sure didn't think that I was going to be everyone's pet peeve!!! Okay, I blame my lousy memory on several years of taking prednisone. They warned me that it would cause poor memory! I don't mean to tell stories over and over again, I just don't remember who I already told 'em to! LOL! My son tells me that I need to get off the farm and have some more life experiences so that I'll have some different stories to tell. I'm turning into the people that I used to deliver lunch to when I did Meals on Wheels for several years!

LOL,

Janet

My biggest pet peeve is a PRETENDER!!! Someone who pretends that they are

one way when they are really another way opposite of how they are acting. I

also hate it when a person uses another person to get attention or praise.

I can not stand when someone lies to me or lies on others. I think I can

put up with just about anything except people who hurt others for just plain

selfishness. I have had to put up with a lot of hurt in my life and

therefore I know what hurt feels like in just about every form, so, when

someone acts in a manner to hurt others to help themselves is a real pet

peeve of mine.
