My guys are both doing extremely well at 7 and 5 - they like school, are doing well in their subjects but most of all are really happy at home and at school. Sammy lost his first tooth on Sunday - my baby! And we register him for kindergarten on Friday, sniff.... Take care Barbara

Guest guest
Hi : I wasn't criticizing you in any way. I knew you were referring to signing, that's why I wrote, " ...until your child says or signs the word... " I have done exactly what you have as far as eliciting language whether it is vocal or signed. I was just pointing out that it doesn't always work and it doesn't work with all children. I am a strong believer in the idea that everyone has to do what is best for their child and themselves. Please don't think I was attacking you, because I wasn't. I apologize if it came out that way. a wrote: > > > I wasnt talking about speech, I was talking about sign. Guest guest
I wasnt talking about speech, I was talking about sign. I would never withohold anything from my children because they did not voice it. They cannot speak, but they CAN sign. The idea is that the child knows screaming and throwing a fit are NOT acceptable and DO not get you what you want. Attempting to communicate in ANY other way is the ONLY way. I was not talking about Speech therapy, and I agree, sometimes you have to move on to the next thing, or it is a big battle that is not worth it. Language aqusition should always be a positive thing, never a battle. I am trying to teach my kids that even walking up to me and tapping me on the shoulder and pointing to the cupboard is much better than screaming to get my attention then ripping through the kitchen. It is all about the child learinig that language is powerful, that is why I suggested that we get behind the child and help them make the sign, so they know that they are indeed capable of that movement. I am sorry if anyone thought I was giving wrong advice. I only know what has worked for us. With SIGN. Guest guest
>hi - can you please tell me about >Sherry's site?! Go here: www.ibwebs.com While everything is not totally functional yet, it will be. All the information is there, I just need to change my guestbook, the search capabilities, and a few things like that. It's mainly a site for deaf and hard of hearing kids and education issues. If you have any problems with the above the old address will still work too! http://home1.gte.net/sherryze/index.htm Notice how much smaller the new address is. Only one of the reasons I'm moving. Guest guest
> It's mainly a site for > deaf and hard of hearing kids and education issues. Allow me to elaborate since Sherry is being way too modest. As my site grew, it became difficult for me to include all the areas folks needed info on. Sherry volunteered to take over the educational aspect of it. Since many folks send me documents related to this, of course I put them online and Sherry explains what they are on her site. I'm very proud of the work she has done with her site, though I doubt she thought it would be quite so much work. My hat goes off to Sherry for what she has accomplished. I'm proud to be able to call her my friend! Hugs, Kay
Guest guest
I just joined your group. I hope I'm doing this right. I'm a little confused as to where I'm supose to send my Brief (or not so brief ) introduction. I have a daughter who is nine years old-. She is moderately to severly H-I. She is mainstreamed with a Cued Speech transliterator in her classroom. I am finding she is really sitting on a fence. Not totally deaf, yet struggles to keep up with her hearing peers. All in all she is doing well, but I am constatnly worried (as I know all parents are). Well I am really excited about this site and hope get some good insight, info, support...whatever...I'm so glad you are all out there. Thanks
