Anyone use Gabapentin this way?

Hello friends -

I've used Gabapentin as a daily med, but it made my ankles and hands

swell so much I had to stop it. Yesterday I had radicular pain from

a disk in my neck that was really stunning, and the two Vicodin I

took for it didn't touch it that much.

Looking for *something* that might help, I took a Gabapentin,

thinking that I could get away with one or two without a problem. An

hour later, poof, pain all gone!

I haven't ever heard of Gabapentin being used as a breakthrough med,

does anyone else use it this way? Also, can anyone who had the

swelling extremities side with it tell me what your doctor went to

next? My PCP is very accomodating, but not terribly knowledgable

about pain meds, and I'm hoping I can give her a leg up on what we

might try next.
