Hi Sue,

When my daughter (NT) was asked to do this in kindergarten, I sent

100 little stickers instead which she was able to share with the

whole class. I asked her to count the other stuff the rest of the

kids shared and bring it home, but NOT eat it. Of course, I threw

away the stuff when it was brought home...

Hi guys,

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a problem thinking of what

to send ... I could send 100 little meringue cookies, or 100 cheese

cubes, or 100 strawberry pieces ...

The problem is all the other kids sharing out their stuff and

not being able to have it. I might send in 17 sets of stickers for

the teacher to give to the other kids to give to her ... but how

tedious!

Sue,

I'm with you. Sometimes, the event is just not right for a child

with food sensitivities/special diet. Especially at preschool age,

I kept Adam home a couple of times rather than try to deal with the

event. Sometimes, by the time you modify it enough, it loses

whatever they were trying to " teach " , or the child is so distracted

by the differences (or the other kids are), that, again, the event

doesn't accomplish what the teacher intended.

Better you get a nice calm, happy day at home, or take the kids

somewhere they like to go.

In Adam's Kindergarten, 100th day is also a big deal. They are

making individual snack mixes. Each child will visit 10 stations

and choose 10 pieces of food at each station. Except for raisins,

there is nothing Adam can eat. However, since they are making their

OWN snack mix, and since its a small part of his full day, and

since he does need the counting practice, I've decided to send in

10 things he CAN eat, one set for each station. AND I have to send

more than 10 pieces, so that he can count out 10, not just take the

whole bunch! What lengths we go to for our kids.

At this point I'm thinking marshmallows, tiny meringues, tiny peanut

butter fudge pieces, some dried fruits, and yes probably some animal

shaped cookies. Not sure what else.

Thanks all for the ideas (offered to Sue) !
