Guest guest
Dear Kris, First and foremost I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from chronic pain, it's a lonely disease that tares at all the fibers of are being. The pain takes on its own character as we try to mask it with the medications but that only lets us view the show. I have read what you said in your post and wanted to let you know that in my eyes I think you're looking at it the wrong way. It's not that you're only getting $ 675.00 a month and trying to live on that, but that you are getting the $ 675.00 a month that you should be grateful to have to live on. If you think about it people that are working for a living and receiving minimum wage in this country receive about the same amount as you do except you don't have work to receive it. Where as in other countries they don't come close to what the United States provides for its disabled Americans. Trust me I have been all over the world and seen its cruelness. The United States Marine Corp taught me the best lesson of all " To over Come and Adapt " To make do with what I have not to complain about what I don't have. Life is too short to worry about money when the real value is in our health. If you need to move again and again till you live on the moon if need be to allow yourself live comfortable than so be it. Your disability doesn't OWN you need learn to overcome and adapt and take control, because it sounds like you allow everyone else the control and blame them when it doesn't go your way. Life isn't made that way you must cut your own path in life there are ways you can make money even with your disabilities you just need to find your way. There are many free agency's willing to help you get started even pay you while your training and also pay the employer for doing so. Another thing is you stated is that money is tight, so what you need to do is cut out all that is not needed [i.e. internet] You said you spent 50 bucks on something you didn't need, but neglected the necessity that's what I am trying to say to you. The 3 things in life all people need are 1.Roof over your Head 2. Clothes on your back 3. Food In your stomach. The rest is all luxuries there are millions of people in the USA right now that are going without. You also need to learn how to cook so that you're stretching the food. Try shopping at discount food shops, use coupons, and eat two meals a day instead of three. I hope you the best of luck ,but I also think you should rethink your situation there are millions of people right now in your same shoes and there more worried about a roof over there head than spending 50 bucks they don't have. Guest guest
Kris, Here are some sites that might help you with some food and low cost living expenses such as low cost electric in michagan. Since you are on disablity cna't you get medicare? Do you have a case worker that can help fight for you? Also, did you get on the list for subsidized living? I know you said it will take three years but the sooner you sign up the sooner those three years will come. If you feel comfortable telling me what county you live in or will be moving to I can try to do some more research for you. http://www.fbcmich.org/site/PageServer?pagename=aboutfbcmich_memberfoodbanks http://liheap.ncat.org/profiles/Michigan.htm http://www.michigan.gov/mpsc/0,1607,7-159-16370_27289-79463--,00.html http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-2943_4857-16263--,00.html with this program you might be able to get home delivered meals as well as someone who can drive you places so you won't have to always depend on your mom http://www.michigan.gov/documents/bewinterwise_138994_7.htm I hope this helps. Guest guest
I understand. I lost everything 10 years ago, including a house that would now be paid for. Both my mother and my sister live on approx what you have. I try to help them with stamps, and cable, a computer for my sister, and a heated blanket but I barely make it with a house that is literally falling down, my own meds and everything wearing out. But I do know that for today I have a roof over my head and food in my stomach. We wanted to get my sister moved from South Dakota to Oklahoma for family closeness but we can't match what she gets in South Dakota for assistance on trips to the doctor, pharmacy, and even grocery store. Granted her apartment needs work and her landlord is a cheap skate and she is cold 90% of the time, but all her medical needs and necessities are taken care of. She even qualifies for a housekeeper once a week. Keep your chin up. Things will wax and wane. Be persistent and we will keep hoping that things get better for you. I almost became homeless again this summer, so I understand the anxiety. I searched and found a special phone service for my mother due to her income. There was a program in my area to fix your home for free, since I live in the " ghetto " , but I didn't learn about it till I was back to work. You need to just keep being persistent. There are programs they never tell you about. You are still young, and have a lot to learn about budgeting, and what might be available to you. But as Rob (USMC) said sometimes we just have to suck it up. Cyrilla in OK - Kris wrote: > > Is anyone else here trying to get by on just their SSI checks? Guest guest
Thanks for the links! I guess I didn't make it clear, but the wait list has been closed because of the 3 years. No idea how anyone keeps getting added to it after four years of trying to get on it myself. I have Medicaid, I have never worked so I can't get Medicare, but some places take Medicaid for payment. I just will be screwed if I ever need another surgery or something serious happens. ~*Kris
Guest guest
Hi Kris, I am sorry about your situation. Suffice to say, it really sucks! I don't know much about your pain, or your situation, but I did want to mention that there are many, many ways to make an income from home. I do. I know there is a limit as to how much you can earn while on disability, so check on that first. But still, I would think that it would be easy to earn at least $675 from home. Shoot, there have been days, many of them, when I have earned $675 in just a day. If you are interested, email me and I can give you some ideas. Some are as easy as eBay. You can find a good dropshipper, and sell their wares. You don't need to store an inventory - they do all the work, and you just collect the profit. Ebay also has an insurance plan. However, that is just one idea, there are many. I am someone who has always worked for myself. I just don't have the personaility to work under someone, or to have a " boss " . I make it work, and you can too! My goodness, what I would give to be 24 again (I am 37, so, not too old yet!). You can do it! Anyone with even a modicum of intellifgence can make $2000 a month. I know someone who makes $1000 a month from doing research questionaires alone! I do a little of that as well, but I earn just about $250 a month, that is all I have time for. But that is a good example. you could do that, it takes maybe an hour a day, and you could bring in an extra $300 or $400 a month. There are lots of opportunities out there. The virtual world is incredible, and yours for the taking. So, turn that frown upside down, and make it happen! Then, spending an extra $50 on yourself won't hurt so much. Plus, since you will be earning the money, you will deserve to occasionally treat yourself well. I know it must be more difficult to do so when receiving only taxpayer money. Anyway, I would love to help you get ahead a bit, email me if you are interested. Best of luck and happy new year! XOXO
Guest guest
Moderator's note: There is no yearly fee at Walmart. Walgreen's has a $20 yearly fee for one person, and $35 for a family. Below are the links that contain many, many medications: Walmart, or Sam's Club http://tinyurl.com/yl8ztr Walgreen's link http://tinyurl.com/32f58m Hi. I don't typically reply to online posts but yours is important. You didn't say anything about how you are able to pay for your meds so I thought I would pass this info on. I recently lost my job thus my insurance went with it, although my pain meds are covered under Workmen's Compensation, I am on Prozac for depression that I have to pay for out of pocket. A 30 day supply costs me $38 but when I went into my local Rite Aid, before I had a chance to get my question out regarding prescription programs for discount scripts, the cashier handed me an application. I was thrilled to receive my $38 med for $8 and change. This program with Rite Aid is FREE unlike a lot of other pharmacy programs where you have to pay a monthly fee. I believe Walmart and Walgreens makes you pay a monthly fee. Anyway, one small piece of information. if you send me an email privately I did find a few other links for prescription plans online that you would be eligible for. andria
Guest guest
Dear Group I hope someone else will offer to help Tammy. I would if I was good on the coumpter. If I had a clue who to call. What she doesn't need right now is to be made to feel bad about her self. Viv in Connecticut
Guest guest
Jess, Kris, My niece just went through this and their are emergency programs within each person's state program and you have to call the ssi office and ask. Medicaid is the state program and there are different requirements for those and different categories. A lady I assist just good medicaid for medical necessity but got her ssi income cut off but she needed the personal assistants and ever-star program. I am amazed each time I read a new category and how to qualify for them so just as Jess states, you need to keep asking. Lyndi has mentioned this before and it helped my niece also, 211 is the national number for Info bank for United Way, community resources and other assistances to assist you. I have found the more you talk to people in person, the more you learn, visit the subsidized housing and how the lists are prioritized but you won't get it if you don't sign up or ask and there are all types of options to include community and other living programs. Guest guest
I live on my SSI check every month. I live in New York, Westchester county( the most expensive county in the country). But, I also get help with my food via food stamps, my medicare deductions are paid by the state And my rent is very low for this area. Fifteen hundred dollars is the norm for a three bedroom apartment, I pay just Five hundred and twenty dollars a month. I had to take in a room mate to help pay for half the rent and, well, half of everything. He is disabled too. Can you get food stamps from your city or state? It helps a lot to get them. You also may be eligible to get your medicare premiums paid for by the state too. I have a few dollars left at the end of the month to pay for incidentals. /New York
Guest guest
Is anyone else here trying to get by on just their SSI checks? I have never been able to work, with my chronic pain starting when I was 12, so I only qualify for $675 a month, I too have this same problem, now compounded by living in the state of Michigan and if at all possible, get out. Subsidized housing no matter where always has a waiting list and usually it's 2 years. But the kids and I survived by having assistance with rent, LLHEAP, (which is a federal program that help with utilities-go to the web site of the same name), food stamps and once in awhile help from my oldest. Illinois where we moved from even had a program for people with low income so they paid reduced rates for prescriptions, license plates and car registration, but in this state NOWAY....we are saving up to move and while it will take quite awhile, there is no way I can remain here...this state sucks big time. Guest guest
Hi Kris, My name is Jane, I live on $670/month also. Plus I am a single mother with no help from my son's father. I can't afford to live either. Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? If you live near me, we could consider being roomates. Just a thought. I am in New York Jane jgoodwin@...
