Guest guest
What do you mean by deteriorating? I'm very interested because your son sounds just like my Luke, and we're officially going to get started next week. Please keep us updated, and good luck! Luke - 5, Asperger's, leaky-gut to phenols/salicylates and bouts of diarrhea/gas pains help and guidance-week 3 Hi all, We are on week 3, and it's getting harder now. The first two weeks behaviorally were fine. My son seems to be deteriorating now. I am not sure this is right for him, and that's why I'm asking for advice. He has many food sensitivities- typical leaky gut thing- which manifest as hyperactivity/ disturbed behavior and occasionally diarreah- when he is exposed to chemicals or strong smells. He has the history common to so many of the kids on spectrum- chronic ear infections followed by repeated courses of antibiotics. He had chronic diarreah/ loose stools for several years when he was younger, but for the past three years his stools have been well-formed and consistent, although he still has the severe food intolerances. He is a typically developing eight year old with some delays, unless he has a food he is sensitive to, in which case he can regress to autistic behavior. When he ws younger he was ASD. So I started the diet in hopes of curing his leaky gut. He is also currently on a course of Nystatin. I want to know how long the adjustment period typically is- how long should I hang in there with deteriorating behavior. Thanks! Guest guest
My daughter had terrible tantrums for 8 weeks at the beginning of SCD. Her poops gradually improved over the same period of time. Since then we have battled on and off with constipation. In our case, when gets irritable, she is also experiencing a burst of gains. Hang in there! It gets easier. Sue (from Pickering) Mom to , 4, formerly? ASD, SCD 10 months > Hi all, > We are on week 3, and it's getting harder now. The first two > weeks behaviorally were fine. Guest guest
Also, keep in mind that the population of his gut is changing, and that causes physiological and psychological changes too. I've read many times (from the adults on the list who are doing SCD with their kids) that the first few weeks they are tired, irritable, etc. Sue (from Pickering)
Guest guest
Our son had tantrums and lots of crabby behavior when we first started. It lasted a good 2 months. I'm sure it was die-off. It wasn't horrible but definitely not fun LOL. So I would expect some lethargy and crabbiness during the die-off period. Everyone's child is different, so it is hard to say how long it will last and how severe it will be. Just keep a watchful eye on your child and if you have any major concerns, please post. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi, Can you tell us what foods he is eating now and what foods he was eating the first week or two? Have you kept a food journal? This is an excellent tool to help determine if a food maybe be triggering a reaction or conversely is a " safe " food. Did you start the Nystatin recently? I believe some parents have experienced regressions with treatments like Nystatin. Sheila, SCD 35 mos UC 20 yrs mom of SCD 20 mos Hi all, We are on week 3, and it's getting harder now.
