Guest guest
Dear Audrey, It is so amazing to think of Meredith entering middle school! Wow! Where has the time gone? I think there will be lots of good suggestions coming your way. I think that Barb Mousouris and Ludwig and others may have good thoughts. As for us, I would encourage specific Occupational Therapy for handwriting. The 'Handwriting Without Tears' program is really excellent in helping handwriting. Or, are you concerned about the content of the writing? If that is the case, I hope others have good ideas. For handwriting help, typing computer program can help bring typing skills up rapidly. If it is handwriting rather than content, the school should be providing a typing device. This could be an " Alpha Smart " type of device on up to a laptop computer. Meredith should not be held behind by writing difficulties. As I mentioned, I'm not sure if it is the content or the actual handwriting, but another thought is that omega 3 fatty acid deficiency can cause 'dysgraphia " , or writing problems. It is also associated with ADD or ADHD conditions. The website that Dr. Stordy provides has a lot of interesting information on this topic: http://drstordy.com Students that act as notetakers are also somewhat common for students that can benefit. I hope you get lots and lots of suggestions. Best wishes, FW: RE: Educational question Hi I guess my question is mostly for the older CHARGE kids and parents. I was wondering as school work becomes more and more difficult and time consuming are there special programs for the computer that you use? Meredith is starting middle school next year, and there is a big jump in the volume of work that she will have. Writing is her weakness, and I was just wondering if any of the other kids have had similar issues, and what they did to either over come them, or manage them a little better. Thanks!!!
