Kelp is high in iodine.. and unless you're someone with goiter from iodine deficiency... it's pretty much not good for us...

? Were you the one that posted on this a while back? Iodine and Hashi's... not being a good combo?

There is much controversy about high iodine and autoimmune thyroid antibodies, particularly with chronic thyroiditis, hashi's. Kelp is high in iodine. Really, I'm not so sure about this, so I stay away with actually taking iodine, yet I still eat seafood and the like, but occasionally. The thought is supposed to be allergy. I do know that I have become allergic to any iodine being on my skin (it burns me, with just a few drops to a gallon of water), but I don't know if this should apply to internal forms found in foods. After all, the thyroid hormone is actually made from iodine. As I said, this is iffy.

I was one, and I just answered this one. There was a site that talked about Hashi's people possibly having iodine allergy, but it didn't go into any great details. I don't know what I did with that link, or if I even saved it.

Not only is it made from iodine, but when the conversion process that changes a T4 molecule into a T3 molecule occurs it a chemical reaction involving selenium plus energy (blood sugar) pulling an iodine molecule off the T4, leaving the T3.. so every time a molecule is converted you have another iodine molecule flowing in the blood stream...

That same reaction takes place when a T3 is turned into a T2 and a T2 is turned into a T1.....

So it is interesting.. to be allergic to something touching your skin that is floating around in your blood....
