Guest guest
Opinion here... but I'm thinking that too many docs think that they know absolutely everything about everything. Granted they know a heck of a lot of stuff about a lot more stuff than I do.. I'm not challenging that at all... but when you take into consideration that docs are said to get 15 minutes of instruction, out of their 4 years of training, on thyroid care.. and that instruction consists pretty much of " test TSH, if it's in range send them home. If it's too low nuke them or cut them. If it's too high give them this brand and you get perks from the company. Prescribe enough of it and you get a couple of weeks in Hawaii!! Oh... and if they are in range and say they still feel like crap, here is a list of stuff that you can give them, all of them get you perks from the same company! " Then there are all of us... spending months and years and decades living with the symptoms and knowing that they are real, no matter what everyone else tells us... then spending months and years digging into the research that has been done AND hearing of folks in the trenches and what they have tried and succeeded with AND finding out that not all of us react the same way to the same treatments... and, well, still opinion here... that makes us a heck of a lot MORE knowledgeable about thyroid problems then most of the docs. Now.. throw into that the fact that so many of us suffer from adrenal issues as well, and that the docs are being told that it isn't a concern.... Well, is it any wonder that we are the ones that are still suffering? I had got a call from a nurse with the results of my labs once. She said that the doctor would be increasing my dose to 200 mcg of Synthroid. I said that I was already on 200 mcg so that wouldn't be an increase... She got confused and said the doc would call me back.. He had an attitude and asked what the problem was.. I explained that the nurse had said that I was to be increased to 200 mcg and since I was already on 200 mcg that wouldn't be an increase... He called me a smartass, no kidding, a smartass! And that I should continue on the same dose. So.. was I showing a need for an increase and he just decided that a smartass didn't deserve one? Or did he get caught in a mistake and I paid the price by continuing to be underdosed? Or was he just a blithering idiot? I may never know.. but that's just one example of the crap that I've gone through with docs.. Any questions about why I have NO problem self treating now?? It's so important to not give up on getting proper care. All we need is to get the hormones that we are missing replaced. It's not some horrible disease that no one has any answers for. We already know the answer, that answer has been known for over a century now. Why are we all still paying the price? Why are we literally victims, the direct result of a pharmaceutical company who's propaganda has left such a large percentage of the medical profession blind to the fact that what they are doing now is WRONG! I just get so angry.. I'm in my mid forties and I'm in worse shape than my dad and he has a heart condition and will be 70 this year! And the sad part, I've improved so much in the last two years, since beginning my own health care - without a doc - that it makes my head spin. I still have so far to go.. But I'm gonna get there, cause now I know what I need to do! Under a doctors care I ended up on crutches. Under a doctor's care I went from a body builder that could throw three 50 pound sacks of dog food on my shoulder (there is a trick to getting three of them up... most of the guys I worked with had trouble doing it.. if you don't jerk and flip just right.. the middle one slipped out and ended up on the floor!) and hike it down the truck ramp, through a store, down a flight of steps and stack it neatly. Now.. I have to hold the railing on the stairs and go down one foot at a time, right foot first, cause my right leg still doesn't have enough strength to lower me to the next step. AND that's an improvement over three years ago!!! It's not that I've lost that much strength, though I have, it's also because of all the weight that I gained! (but we all know that we gain weight cause we are too lazy to exercise and spend all our time in bed eating bon bons... so I can't blame that on the poor health care I received, right?) I used to be able to bench press 250 pounds, 3 sets, 12 reps... now.. I'm thrilled if I can carry three sacks of groceries, in three trips, from the driveway to the kitchen. Three years ago I was proud to carry 1... Since I've started my own care. My crutches are now used as drying racks. I can now lather, rinse and repeat when I shampoo my hair. I go to bed at night and fall asleep AND sleep through the night. I can go to the bathroom, complete all necessary tasks therein, and get back to the TV before the commercial is over. Not like before. Plan on spending a half hour, hope it works this time... As bad as I was.. I've come so very far.. and I know it will still get better. Because I understand what is wrong and am taking steps to correct what I can. I'm doing what no doc in over a decade came close to doing. Arrrrgggghhhh this is turning into a rant... but gosh darn it... there are so many people going through so much H)(* & (* & (* & due to improper diagnosis and care and it DOES NOT NEED TO BE THAT WAY!!!!!! Treatment exists. Medication and vitamins and minerals exist. Knowledge to use them exists - and has for OVER A CENTURY!!!!! Why don't we get the benefit of that BEFORE our bodies and lives and US have to pay the price for the greed of others? I WILL BE ME AGAIN! It may take time, but it took a lot of years to get so bad, it may take a while to get well, but I know how now, and I learn more and more each and every day. For everyone here. Find a GOOD doc. Don't settle. Do what you need to do to get the very best care that you can. Protect your body, protect your life, protect the QUALITY of your life! Don't ever settle. Don't let them tell you it's in your head. Don't let them tell you it's old age (especially when someone 20 years older is doing what you can't). Fight for you and NEVER GIVE UP! *climbing down from soap box with teary eyes* Topper () *who dreams of opening a clinic specializing in proper thyroid care and whole body health* On Sun, 27 Jun 2004 22:00:35 -0000 " darringirl " writes: > Thanks Topper2. Guest guest
Topper, I just want you to know, that a lot of your posts have really helped me, and I am proud of you that you re doing so well, and that you had the mind to treat yourself and not listen to the dr. anymore. What is the point when they only hurt you more? It might seem small but even if all of your experiences have only been so to help us learn more, that is great deal to us. adn personally I like when you rant and rave because it helps motivate me!! You take care, and continue your progress, it gives me hope! Love,
Guest guest
Hey... want to combine with our project? We want to have an on site pharmacy and our own small lab..... We'd just expand a bit!!!! That would be awesome.... I can't tell you how many lotteries and raffles that I'm in online, the free ones.. hoping that just one hits and I get enough money to start or get into more lotteries or something, anything to come up with startup money!
