Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is and I am 39 yrs old. I joined this group so I can hopefully gain some advice/suggestions from those of you who may have gone through a similar circumstance with chronic pain. I have some herniated discs at T-8/T-9/T-10. My " injury " happened in 2001 and I have been on pain relievers since that time. We are a military family and have moved twice since the initial diagnosis. The most recent move was 2 months ago. I went to my primary care doctor yesterday after having seen her once initially and she then referred me to a Pain Mgmt Clinic who ordered an MRI and sent me back to my PCM. My appointment yesterday did not go so well. The doctor seemed to discount my pain entirely and is recommending Detox/Rehab for my dependence on pain meds. She didn't offer an alternative to the medicines. She just seemed appalled that I had been on strong meds for 7 years and focused on that. I am not adverse to going off the pain medications IF there is a substitute for the relief I get from them. I do not feel that I have ever abused the medications I have been given. I only take them when I am supposed to or when absolutely necessary. I am young and really would hate to be on the meds for the rest of my life although I function well while taking them. I have tried many other procedures and therapies along the way including Pain blocks and epidurals, Physical therapy, Kinesology, Chiropractic, and others. Is there anyone on this board that could offer some advice here? Thank you, AW
