Hi All,

I haven't posted in a while. continues to improve but of course

I am still investigating all the options. I took him to an

immunologist and strangely all his tests came bake fine except for a

battery against pneumococcol. Stranger still the Dr (mainstream Doc

noy Autism Doc) said all the other tests were done against protein

antigens...this pneumococcal is a polysaccharide antigen.

HMMMMMMM....his digestive track cant handle polysaccharides and now

his immune system cannot handle polysaccharides is this

coincidence????? Now the Doc wants to immunize him again with a

stronger pneumovax vaccine which I am of course very nervous about!

But guess what the treatment is ...paid for by blue cross if his

numbers dont improve...IVIG....Coincidence????? Any thoughts?

" In more commonly encountered circumstances the vaccine is not

effective. Adults with immunosuppressing conditions, and many with

chronic medical disorders, are unable to mount an adequate antibody

response to the vaccine ... "

from

this polysaccharide vaccine seem to be so useless that there is a new

protien based vaccine in the works somewhere. i presume thats the

stronger one he is talking about?

generally it appears difficult for some reason to make an effective

vaccine against pneumococcol...............

i don't think its good practice to give a vaccine while having or

having had the illness.

the question has to be if he can't mount an aedquate immnue response

then are there real risks of the vaccine causing damage?

does the new vaccine have thimersal(ethly mercury)?

vitmain a and d are great immune system assists.

i don't get a feeling of confidence in the medical treatment.

Hi Donna,

'mainstream'...? Advanced to say the least. IVIG seems to be a short-

term suppressor of some symptoms, not suitable for all children and

not without risks. I'd go for a second opinion without mentioning SCD.
