The Gleason and PSA, is that from Feb? What has it done since?

Have done any treatments since Feb 06?

If not, why? If so, which ones?

My $.02, with an attitude like that, find a new doc!!

With all due respect by doing nothing you really "have" rolled the dice. Mick Hicks wrote: since feb of 06 no treatment at all no symptoms....no urinating at night nothing ! psa history since feb...207 25.8 25.3 28.0 thats the psa activity...the

I agree with Mick – though your

number is somewhat stable, it’s still high. With that much PSA

circulating in your bloodstream,

It’s likely doing harm and possibly

creating other complications.

Q.O.L. is good after Proton Treatment. So far, 1 month

later after treatment, all systems are a go.

My point was really that once you are diagnosed with PCa every decision from then on is a roll of the dice and one we have to live with. I didn't make my comment to cause debate on 's decision, because his decision is his decision and I respect it even though I don't understand it. I do however feel it is important that newcomers realize that "watchful waiting" is a choice or a roll of the dice just like any treatment and should be considered very carefully. Hi Again:

Almost a year ago I was in pretty much the same boat. 51 years old

very active, performance cycling, scuba diving, hiking etc. I was

diagnosed with a psa of 18 gleason 9. Had ALL the tests and it was

found to have escaped a wee bit. Surgery was a poor option. Poor

chance of getting it all and guaranteed impotence. So I did the

hormone, radiation thing. Started Zolodex in July, had hdr

brachytherapy in late October and just finished imrt radiation

yesterday. HOPEFULLY " fixed " . Only time will tell now.

As for degradation of quality of life? NONE!!!! The hormones

definitely shoot your libido down a bit. In my case not totally. Sex

isn't quite as enjoyable, but that's a temporary thing. No side

effects from the brachytherapy except a bit of a sore bottom for a

couple of days. I just finished the external radiation with no ill

effects except for a bit of constipation which is easily dealt with.I

didn't miss a day of work except when I went to the hospital for the hdr.

Now, fingers and toes crossed, I am done! Need to have the psa

closely monitored, stay on the Zolodex for a while then that should be

it. Move on and hopefully die from old age.

My point is, treatment will not necessarily put a big (or any) dent

in your 'qol " . If it does it's usually temporary. You deal with it

and move on. In my case there was consensus among the team of doctors

I worked with, that left untreated I could look forward to taking the

old dirt nap not too far down the road. Not an option I would consider

Cheers
