Barbara:

When gets an infection - ears or sinus - the doc puts her on

Zythromax. It is one whopper of an antibiotic! Seems like it is the only

thing that works for her. She's had Amoxicillian 250 and 500 and not had it

make any difference in the infections. Pop her onto Zythromax and they are

gone pretty quickly. It is nice for dosing also: Once a day for 5 days.

Stays in the system for the full 2 weeks usually advised for infections of

that sort.

Might ask about it.

We think that has a sinus infection. What have people used to

treat them and how long do they seem to last? I am not sure that he

is responding well to the antibiotic.

That is also what we use for now. She developed an allergy to

Augmentin, which had been our magic medicine. It did take 4 courses of

Zithromax this winter to finally clear up her sinus/ear infection. But we

have now been clear for almost two months...a new record for !

Wow! I wish Zithromax would have worked that well for , it was easy on

her tummy / GI but with our experience the Zithromax didn't clear 's

infections. Everyone is different...

In Nov. 2002 during a horrible admission tested positive for MRSA

(Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) in her respiratory secretions.

came down with another common? cold in January. With immediate advice

from her knowledgeable ENT- to administer Prednisolone (steroid). Thank

goodness we were able to stay out of the hospital...During the cold,

developed an ear infection (right ear) and we needed to " kill 5 bugs, MRSA,

staph, strep and two others. " Needless to say it was a long course of 'nasty'

antibiotics. She was prescribed Cipro drops and an oral antibiotic Omnicef

for 10 days. With a f/u the infection was not cleared. She then was

prescribed Floxin drops for 10 days and oral Bactrim(Sulfa Trimeth-for ,

the constipating antibiotic) for 14 days. With another f/u this fortunately

cleared her infection(s). I think it is important to f/u with any infection!

In the past her pediatrician's have almost always prescribed Zithromax as a

'starting point.' We now know (learned the hard way) that it doesn't work for

her, as we've had too many infections that have painfully progressed to the

unfamiliar.

Barbara, I hope is healed soon!
