I was wondering about that. Wasn't sure if I should call my family doc or my

specialist when other things go wrong (i.e., colds, flues, etc.). I told

Sheik yesterday that I had chest pains for three days last week so bad that I

almost went to the ER and he told me that it is probably a touch of

bronchitis, since my throat is irritated, I have trouble catching my breath

and I've been coughing also, and he gave me a script for a Z-Pac (which Ive

taken before and they dont help me). I didnt even fill the damn thing. He

wanted to give me Darvocet but I told him Ive been that route too and it

didn't help. That was one instance when he rolled his eyes and said that I

just needed to go to the ER then. Quite the helpful doctor !!!!

.... I'm so thrilled for you....I'm sure your going to love your

female doctors....The best part is that they confirmed what you had

already felt about your last doctor. That must have been a nice feeling

knowing you were not the only one. Well, August will be here before you

know it. Hope your having a great day...

.... Forgot to tell you..My primary is a female doctor. She is

only about 4'10 " at the most but she is just the best doctor. I was

able to ask her questions that I felt a little uncomfortable asking a

male doctor. Now my Rheumy has taken over everything... so I don't go

see my primary anymore unless my Rheumy or Lung specialist wants me to.

...didn't he even take a chest xray? Sounds like he's just

guessing at things. Why does that not surprise me at all....

Yes, when I have a cold or chest pains I have to call my Rheumy

first.... If the chest pains really get to me then I call the lung

specialist or my Rheumy and he'll go over to her office and explain

things to her. But, everything goes through them. They explained to me

that almost everything I go through is related to the PM or the drugs

used. They have to keep track of it all. I sure like it that way.

,

I am so thrilled for you!

My Rheumy/Primary care physician is also a female. She sounds a lot like Vicki's too. She is all of 4'10" and 80 pounds!

I love having female doctors...my gynecologist is a female also.

I was given Zoloft after I had been on Prednisone for 10 months. It took about 10 days to kick in for me...so hang tight if you don't feel the effects immediately from your anti-depressant.

Be certain to call the rude doctor's office and ask for a complete copy of your medical records so that you will have them to give to your new doctor.

Take care!

Hey Vicki,

I had a pretty good day. I've been hurting for the past few days and realized I hadn't meditated in about 4 days...so I meditated yesterday and again today and feel so much better. We've had rainy weather, so the athritis has kicked in these days. My eyes seem to want to stay dry, so I keep Murine Tears handy.

All in all, I am doing good.

How about you? Did you have a good day? You were probably wiped out from your trip to the doctor, weren't you? They will normally tire me for several days, or up to a week. I do hope you are feeling all right. How about your lungs? Did you have x-rays taken? I pray your lungs are better. To me, that is the worst pain to have to deal with.

Take care, hugs,

Hi ...I'm doing just fine... I've been sleeping since my doctors

appt. and staying down in bed until my body says it's time to

move...lol I agree, it just wipes me out going anywhere.

I do however get up to feed my horses and dogs. They did take an xray

of my lungs to make sure nothing else was going on. Just the usual

scars and interstitial lung disease.... I have pain in my lungs off and

on. It's a combination of the scaring and PM. On bad days it can be

the pits but staying down and keeping calm is important. I take two

medication puffers into my lungs each day which help with my breathing.

I just wish there was some way to get a maid to do the house work...LOL

It is very late but after I read this post I had to

reply. If by anti-depresants you mean an SSRI drug

then you shouldn't be taken Kava Kava too. I am

currently seeing an OB/GYN for Menopause. I am 36 and

had a hysterectomy after was born. I got

extremely ill in Feb. after having been seeing a Male

doctor (from India no less) who had me on hormone

pellets. They are inserted into the muscle of my

right or left buttock. We alternated cheeks each

visit. i trusted him with all my heart and soul. He

helped us get pregnant with our first child after

other doctors told me I could never have children.

He is world famous and women come from all over the

world to see him. His office is set up almost like an

assembly line for women to receive their hormone

pellets. I felt privledged to be one of his patients.

I got pellets every 6 months, then 4, then 2 1/2.

The last year the hot flashes were so out of control

that I would actually throw up and almost pass out.

After a hot flash I would feel like I had the flu the

rest of the day and have to fight to stay awake. At

first I blamed these symptoms on the stress of 's

illness. It was so hard for me to admit that this

doctor was doing me so much harm. My last visit with

him was this past Feb. I let him talk me into more

pellets and a booster shot of estrogen. I gradually

became sicker and sicker over the next few weeks until

my central nervous system went into shock from the

estrogen surges and I was rushed to the hospital by

ambulance. I was up in constant motion, heart

palpatations, sweating, nausea... etc... for 20 hours.

Finally, I agreed to some valium and that did the

trick. What an incredible blessing just to be able to

sit still. I then went on Celexa. It is a SSRI. A

wonderful Dr. was treating me by then by the name of

Dr. Ron Eaker. He listens to me with his full

attention and fully believes in natural herbs before

resorting to prescription drugs. In my case, I

didn't have the time for natural herbs to take effect.

I needed immediate relief. While SSRi's are

anti-depressants, in small dosages it keeps my Central

Nervous Systems calm, therefore the hot flashes are

just ordinary hot flashes, or surges of estrogen. My

estrogen level came back at 664. Normal is 40 - 250.

My testoterone level is 880. Normal is 20 - 40. I am

still on the Celexa and hope to start weaning off in

June and then Dr. Eaker wants me to start Kava Kava.

Dr. Eaker said to not mix the two so please be very

careful. SSRI's and Kava Kava do not mix well.

Prozac, Paxil and Celexa are all examples of SSRI's.

I know I am way off the myositis track here but I

wanted to share that info. with you. Pam - the book

Dr. Eaker wrote is " Holy Hormones " . It is an amazing

book about going through Menopause. He has such a

high respect for women and the support and info that

women share with each other. I am grateful everyday

that I found him. I guess this wasn't such a short

note after all. I'm off to bed. Good Night!

, I cracked up about the off with his head

joke. That is how I feet about my India Doctor!

you don't look stupid! you never know the answers unless you ask...right guys?

Anyway, Kava Kava is a natural, alternative medicine for depression. You can buy it at health food stores.

Vicki,

I am going to quote from " Earl Mindell's Supplement

Bible " .

" Kava Kava is a natural mood enhancer. In 1993,

scientists discovered that kava kava contains potent

compounds, kavalactones, which are natural muscle

relaxants that have a pleasant, calming effect on both

the body and the mind. Several studies have shown

that kavalactones can reduce the symptoms of anxiety

as well as or even better that prescription

antianxiety drugs, but without the unpleasant side

effects such as dry mouth, and nausea. Even better,

kava kava is non addictive and will not leave you

feeling drugged or groggy, as do many tranquilizers.

You should feel calm, yet alert. Recently, I

encountered a new and interesting use for Kava kava as

a treatment for the symptoms of menopause. In one

study, a group of 20 postmenopausal women were given

either kava kava supplements daily, or a placebo. The

group taking kava kava experience an almost immediate

improvement in symptoms of stress, anxiety, and even

hot flashes. Take up to three 250 mg. capsules daily.

Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

CAUTION: Although kava kava will not make most people

drowsy, there is a small risk that it may. When you

first begin taking kava kava, closely monitor your

reaction to this herb. If you feel drowsy or 'out of

it' after taking kava kava, don't drive or engage in

any activity that requires concentration. "

He said it better then I could!
