By long cycles, do you mean a lot of distance between your periods AND a few

scanty days, or do you mean long heavy periods, with a lot of distance

between them. In the former case, I'd say he's probably right, but one

thing is that your other hormones DO get messed up, right along with the

thyroid. Your thyroid hormones, in concert with other hormones and chemical

reactions do regulate your menstrual cycles, and both estrogen, and

particularly progesterone---or it can be vice-versa. The lack of

progesterone can be a key to adrenal and thyroid connectors. Both systems

(adrenal and thyroid) work intimately together to produce all these

reactions.

Call up your doc and request a copy of your labs so that we can see....

We need the values and the lab ranges.

If you are going in for more tests make sure that besides the TSH they

also take Free T4 and Free T3.

Hyper does mess up periods, more than hypo, I think.... when I was hyper

mine went away completely and didn't come back again until a few months

after my RAI..

Some women have fluctuations of thyroid activity during pregnancy, so

it's not an uncommon thing, but your doc should have monitored you more

closely and then followed up after your delivery to see if your thyroid

levels normalized.

I got back my ultrasound results which showed a nodule on my R. and L.

side. I go to the hospital this Thursday to take a pill?...and then

Friday to get a more in depth scan. They called it an uptake. Does

this sound like appropriate measures? Also...I have been very short

of breath recently. Is this pretty normal with having hyperthyroid

problems? Thanks!!

Yep, the scan would be the next step... and yep, shortness of breath can

be common when hyper. Your body is running faster than normal, needing

more oxygen, so you need to breath more... sometimes that need for more

air is more than what your regular breathing brings in and it can make

you feel short of breath.. Take it easy and don't push yourself... let

you body just do what it has to to keep up with the 'high speed' mode

until they determine what is going on and what they need to do to slow

you down....

The pill that they will give you as a small amount of radioactive iodine

in it... Iodine is absorbed quickly by the thyroid and it will filter out

the radioactive tracer, that why the scan will be able to see a clearer

picture of the gland and what's going on.

It wouldn't hurt if you took a minute, as you think of it, and do some

deep breathing.... fill your lungs all the way up... hold for a few

seconds and then let it all the way out... give yourself an extra shot of

oxygen... it keeps the shortness of breath episodes farther apart....

thyroid magically appear as it sucked it up!*

Before my hyst, my periods were nonstop for two yrs, despite the treatment

of the times, which was medroxyprogesterone. Heavy, painful, and I thought

I was going to bleed to death, frankly. It should have been the first clue

about a screwed up thyroid.
