Guest guest Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Shari, Stay safe....you'll be in my thoughts, as you always are. I don't know how you deal with all those hurricanes! I think I would be a basket case by now! I have another friend close by you, in Sarasota. She had her explant surgery on the same date and at the same time as me, back in 1998! We've stayed in touch all these years, and I would love to visit you both. Take care, my friend and let us know as soon as you can get back on line. Love, Pattyhalvey70@... wrote: hello all I wasn't sure if we had any members in S. Florida in the group.... I remember last year it was a scramble here to try to find members after Katrina hit although this storm getting ready to hit us is nowhere near as big or strong as Katrina was.... it is maybe going to be a Cat 1 when it hits Florida at the most... I hope everyone stays safe - I will probably be offline tomorrow as I am sure if it goes as it is forecasted we will lose power for a while... we will have a generator by this afternoon but not for the PC - it should only be a tropical storm by the time it gets to the Tampa area where I live so it will not be so bad - southern FL and central will be worse.... I hope if any of you girls are there you stay careful.. Just part of living here although I have to say it is getting nerve wracking dealing with this worrying year after year... luckily this is a small storm and will do minimal damage compared to the ones we have seen the last few years... hopefully there will be no casualties... This one keeps changing so I guess we won't know where it is gonna hit until it does....that is the worst part. good luck everyone - I will probably be back online later if not then maybe Thursday... shari Get your email and more, right on the new .com Quote
Guest guest Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 thanks Patty I know - it is extremely nerve wracking - what is worse is is for years we have had a number of very close calls but not any bad direct hits - knock on wood, which makes me think this is scary as it seems more and more against the odds that we ill keep getting passed over.... a few years back we got nipped pretty good w, 2 back 2 back.... they were not above cat 2's I don't think but we did have some damage to our roof, etc... nothing like others have had and I am so grateful.... I just can't help but think eventually we will be next and that is so scary.... especially since they change around so much and you never know - they say one thing then 4 hours later you turn on the news and it is headed another direction... as on last nite it was headed to the east coast... now it looks to hit much farther towards the west coast of Florida - of course I don't wish it to hit anywhere - just to go out and go disappear but luckily this doesn't look too strong - just a ton of bad weather... I was on Cocoa beach during a cat 2 during a direct hit w/ my parents when I was in my late teens... that was really scary but we made it... we were on the water and it was supposed to go elsewhere - we stayed at the beach all day and by the time we got back it had changed courses - we turned on the TV later and realized it was headed for us and we had been under a mandatory evacuation for several hours... we were on vacation and had no idea until it was almost too late - we decided to wait it out which was a terrible idea - it was much worse than we thought and we were all terrified.... anyways - lesson learned and we were not hurt... I can not imagine how horrible it would be to be in a storm worse than that.... I feel so badly for those people last year in Katrina- I can not even begin to imagine those horrors... We bought a generator today as we get sooo tired of waiting out the power outages.... those really stink w/ a small child... he just doesn't understand going potty in the dark or not being able to listen to his radio, etc... he gets bored... Good luck to the girls south and east of me... hopefully I will see you all back here Thursday!!! love to all shari Quote
Guest guest Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Thank you Rogene. Yes, we are in the path, but hopefully it won't be too bad. We got lots of water, canned goods, dog food and gas. I'm going to take an excedrin and crawl in bed. I'm exhausted. The storm should hit in a few hours - it is starting to cloud over and get breezy... I just pray it is nothing more than a tripical storm - we still dont have our tile for our new roof, after the damage a year ago. > > Molly is in the path of this storm . . . Guest guest Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks Shari... We are in Ernesto's path, but it doesn't look like it will be more than a tropical storm. The temperature has dropped and it is breezy outside - it's very pleasant, actually. So I expect we will get a lot of rain. The good news is that we don't have any large trees to blow over - they went with last year's hurricane! > > thanks Patty > > I know - it is extremely nerve wracking - what is worse is is for years we > have had a number of very close calls but not any bad direct hits - knock on > wood, which makes me think this is scary as it seems more and more against the > odds that we ill keep getting passed over.... > a few years back we got nipped pretty good w, 2 back 2 back.... they were > not above cat 2's I don't think but we did have some damage to our roof, etc... > nothing like others have had and I am so grateful.... Guest guest Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 hi there Molly how did you make out - just starting to get the first bands up here....doesn't look like it's gonna be much worse than a long bad storm.... I was looking on the news and they were saying the south FL regions got a lot of rain, etc, but no damage and minimal power outages...sounds good although in our area the power goes out in a small rain storm.... every time we get just the edge of a hurricane or tropical storm we lose power for at least 12 hours or more... not fun... luckily we bought a generator now as that was getting pretty old. this is why I am on so early - it is 7 here - probably won't have power in a few hours talk later!! shari Quote
Guest guest Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Ernesto was a piece of cake. We got nailed by Wilma and didn't have power for a month, plus lost all our fruit trees, our central AC, and our roof, plus a lot of $$ lost in my husband's business. I think I saw some leaves in the canal this morning.......... All is well. Dawn Quote
Guest guest Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Prayer chain activated. I've been involved with a mini-hurrcane once, and was close to a few tornadoes...I can't imagine being there when Katrina struck! May God comfort and keep everyone safe! Guest guest Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Do you have your roof yet, Dawn? WE are stll waiting on tile. ;-( > > Ernesto was a piece of cake. > We got nailed by Wilma and didn't have power for a month, plus lost all > our fruit trees, our central AC, and our roof, plus a lot of $$ lost in > my husband's business. > > I think I saw some leaves in the canal this morning.......... > > All is well. > > Dawn > Quote
Guest guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Haw! No, we're under contract with a company and are still waiting for the permit to go through. I'm thinking by Christmas, or at least until just after then next storm comes and pulls the roof off completely. We opted for a nice cheap architectural shingle, so there isn't a supply problem, just a scheduling one, I guess. We're not in a hurry, as we have no leaks, our roof is just kind of buckled and ugly. We told them to get folks with leaks first. We had a huge front wall of arches go down which has left the front of our house needing some work still, although we did what we could. We just hired an indepen. ins. adjuster to help us get more money, as we were really lowballed, by about 10 grand, we think. Dawn Quote
Guest guest Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 That seems to be common, sadly. We had a tree fall on our roof, and it was leaking. We have the roof on now, but no tile. They had told us it would be done by April. Every month they say something different. SIgh. > > Haw!
