Guest guest
Sorry - my son was having something similar to a febrile seizure it turns out. he's fine now. Anyway, Raegan is 6 1/2 months old and rolls and scoots constantly. She will probably be crawling by the end of the week. She rolls all over her bed at night, so she is not sleeping in the same position all night - I don't think. I'm just worried that when we take the helmet off - she will develop the flat spot again. The ortho scared me a little when they said they needed to do an exit cast to be sure that in a couple months she didn't get worse. Do you think I should worry about repo? If so do you have any ideas? Thanks! mom to Bryce 3, Kaelyn 6mos, Raegan 6mos (DOC Band 12/22/03)
Guest guest
, I hope your son is all right!! Regarding post-helmet/band repo, this is really a new area for me! Regression/reflattening is so rare, but probably should be a watch- out for babies who are still quite young at " graduation. " Since Raegan is up and moving about, I would guess that the biggest risk factor by far would be sleeping in the same position for extended periods of time. If you can intermittently monitor that fact that she is rolling round in different positions in her bed, then you've probably got a handle on that risk. For daytime, it's great news that she is scooting all over! I doubt she'd be satisfied playing on her back for extended periods of time anyway, thankfully, so continued tummy play should be easy. Are you still interested in using a bouncie or swing occasionally? If so you may want to provide some cushioning with memory foam, or put some regular foam behind the neck in the bouncie to keep the head off of the bouncie (there is a photo of this in the FILES/REPO HDQRTRS/REPO PHOTOS folder.) Daytime risks at her age could be extended stroller or carseat time, so you may want to minimize the times she is these devices to the " must " situations. Maybe you could also have some cushioning or memory foam in the head area of the stroller (a link to custom sized memory foam is in the LINKS/REPO folder.) A soft, cushioning surface for the seat back of the high chair could be another easy regression-preventive measure. Rotating position during bottle/breastfeeding in a conscious manner will also keep Raegan's head nice and round! I think you will be fine with some broad, general watchouts, with special care and concern to sleep position. You mentioned the appt. with the ortho in a couple of months to measure if Raegan had gotten any worse post-treatment; did they give you any prevention guidelines, since the follow-up appt. is acknowledgement of a regression risk? I would be interested in knowing what the ortho felt was appropriate preventive regression measures. Would you keep me posted on how Raegan is doing? Take care, Christie > Sorry - my son was having something similar to a febrile seizure it > turns out. he's fine now. Anyway, Raegan is 6 1/2 months old and > rolls and scoots constantly. Guest guest
Hi , Our ortho just said (and I just saw it on the list recently, too) that there is only a 1% chance of reflattening after the band comes off....However, that doesn't stop me from going in to check to see how he's sleeping since it came off before I go to bed! :-)...Also, the older the baby, there is even less chance that it will reflatten since they are spending more and more time off their heads. and (DOCgrad/10-7-03 to 2-13-04 @10mos./PA)brandikaiulani <jmitchell10@...> wrote: Sorry - my son was having something similar to a febrile seizure it turns out. he's fine now.
