,

I have Companion in SC which is owned by BCBS. They ended up paying

all but $20 for band #1. They are supposed to pay for all but $20

on #2 also. I haven't seen any money returned but I know Cranial

Tech got the first $2980. I had to appeal. My company is self

insured and Comapnion was using the wrong contract. Not sure if

it's included in your contract. Why did they deny coverage? Maybe

I can help. My appeal is listed in the insurance section under

Contract Exclusion.

The first was denied b/c it was out of network (we have an HMO and

chose to go out of state) and the second did not meet their medical

technology assessment or something like that. The first was paid

for much in part due to media coverage and my husband's employer

(our ins carrier and a VERY large account for them!) putting

pressure on them, and the second we fought on continuation of

treatment. I would say to make yourself known to them and document

everything. We called practically everyday, literally dozens and

dozens of times and had the names of who we spoke to, fax receipts

of stuff we sent, etc. The negative media attention is what finally

got the ball rolling though. Good luck!
