Guest guest Posted December 16, 2003 Report Share Posted December 16, 2003 Hi Sandy, Our son Adam is getting a great improvement with his head rounding, I think in the 8 days that he has had it on, we can see about 15% improvement. We are over the moon. The helmets that Dr. Blecher uses, are made by a company in the University which he works in Gissen Germany. They are funded by the university. When we met Dr. Blecher in London, he said if we could not afford to pay for the treatment, he would do it for free. He really is the most wonderful person. We paid, we were going to go to Barcelona for the treatment till we found Dr. Blecher, he charges half the cost of a Doc Band, when fitted in Spain. By the way Sandy, his wife is expecting a baby in June. Happy Christmas to you and your family. Please tell us how your daughter progresses with her Cranio helmet. I was talking to my husband last night about hoping that tomorrow might be 's last day and he was right there with you. He told me to stop rushing things. I know his head will round out nicely, it sure has so far. Thanks for giving me your opinion and helping me to slow down my excitement while 's head gets as close to perfection as possible. Much research went into selecting the size of liner. Different sizes were tried in our research phase, and the best outcome was achieved with the 10 mm liner. Every band is custom made for the individual child. The head is corrected to symmetry for that particular child and the band is fabricated around the corrected shape. In other words, the band is not made to a size, but rather to the corrected head shape. A three- month old is having tremendously fast brain growth. It is the circumference of the band that becomes outgrown, i.e. you may lengthen the hem on a pair of pants, but the child outgrows them at the waist (circumferentially). By keeping a child in a band that is outgrown you risk increasing head height and other negative changes in the head, since you have a growing brain/skull in a contained environment. In an older child, whose brain growth is much slower, you may be able to leave a band on longer than 4 months, but at this point the plastic pressures are exhausted and you are really not treating the child, but rather just warming his/her head with the plastic. The band fits significantly different now as the circumference as well as the shape has changed. At this point, the decision is up to the parent and physician. They determine if treatment is complete or if further correction is warranted. To continue treatment, the child is cast again, as the head shape has now totally changed and new, accurate pressures are required. Approximately 80% of the children we treat have one DOC Band. I would like to make it clear that I am only speaking for the DOC Band.
