Jan,

I have Vera Pyle and that word is not in there. Sorry I can't be of more

help than that.

Thanks Margaret and Holly. I did a Google search and got quite a few hits

for desufflate, even though I know that's not very reliable. I suspect

you're right, Margaret.. it's made up and that's why it's not in any books.

I'd be really interested to see if it's in the new Vera Pyle since Tessier's

won't be updated anytime soon. Margaret, is it in the Stedman's surgery

book? (the orange one that has a bad rep?)

I'm not Margaret (well, technically I am, but not the one you're asking

<teehee>), but it is not in there. And, BTW, I am a big fan of the book! It

is great when you are looking for surgical words as opposed to the other book

which is for surgical equipment. There are many terms found in one that are

not in the other.

Hi Peggy.. (AKA the other Margaret) LOL. I spose I should qualify my

statement about the orange book. There's another MT list I'm on and they are

the ones who said it wsn't a good book; however, most of them have Tessier's

and Vera Pyle, so I guess I can see how they'd think the orange book is a

waste if they already have the others. Of course, to each their own.. I

personally HATE Tabers (ducking) and prefer Dorlands. I guess it's a

chocolate and vanilla thing :)

I have all of those and then some (bookaholic), and I still reach for the

surgery words when I am looking for something about surgery that is not a

piece of equipment. You're right about it being a chocolate and vanilla

thing. In my case, it's a vanilla fudge thing. I have to have all the books

and look in them all. But I prefer Dorland's even to Stedman's. I have the

heavy Stedman's tome and I haven't lifted it in a long time. I have found

things in Dorland's Electronic that I could never find in Stedman's.

Whatever gets the job done for each individual, I guess. :)

Jan, As far as I know, you won't find it in Vera (although I only have the fifth

edition and she is now on the eighth edition, so she may be listing it now).

Desufflated is a made up word by the docs, which will probably be in the

dictionary at some point, but has not been included yet. I have always just

gone ahead and typed it as desufflated. Margaret

Jan, Margaret, Margaret, Holly, etc. ..........

You mention the " orange book " ? Hmmm ........

Haven't purchased a book in quite awhile and suddenly have that urge. I

have the surgical equipment (blue one) as well as all the other specialty

books, but only see one other " orange " one over there on my shelf

(oncology). What is the exact title of the one you're referring to? Don't,

at the moment anyway, have a huge need for it, but may be changing my

specialty after the " move " and want to be fully equipped!!

I'm sure I'll hear that familiar song & dance from the husband ... " Shel,

really, another book???!!! " Yep! If someone could send along the title,

I'd appreciate it. That one must've slipped through the cracks - can't

believe I missed it.

Thanks,

Shel

, It is Stedman's Surgery Words book, including anatomy and anesthesia.

It came out as a companion to the Equipment words book, but has been much

maligned by people on this list and others that it isn't worth the money.

However, whenever I am looking for a word that is specifically related to a

surgery, I can grab that one and almost always find what I am looking for. Tell

your husband that as a transcriptionist you can never have enough books and the

ones you have will be obsolete in just a few years. Don't forget about

Stedman's 3 for 2 special that will be going on sometime in May in honor of

medical transcription week.

Also I though I would let you all know that I just bought the Stedman's Concise,

since they now have a brand new edition of that. It just arrived today and I

don't work today, so I have gotten much of a chance to check it out, but from

what I have seen, I am thrilled with it and with the CD-ROM that is included

with it. I think this is going to be a great edition. It is a lot smaller than

Dorland's and I am hoping I won't need to drag the Dorland's out nearly as much.

Of course I am also getting to the point where I am soon going to have to build

a new bookcase or shelf for all of my books (haha). Good luck with the hubby

and the move , Margaret
