Guest guest
, North Carolina is a wonderful state for pediatric specialties. sees an urologist in Chapel Hill, goes to CT in Durham, there is UNC Chapel Hill children’s hospital, as well as Duke University Children’s hospital in Durham. I have had wonderful experiences living in this state with him. Since he was 6 weeks early due to my water breaking 18 weeks early and he’s here to hear about it later, I will never complain about the wonderful medical treatment that this state has to offer. I will say that I am not very happy with his pediatrician, here in Fayetteville, if I ever have any questions about anything, first he sends us for unnecessary tests then he sends us 100 miles away to a specialist. I like that he’s thorough enough to send us for all of the tests that most would tell me we don’t need when I think we do, but I don’t like that he sends us so far to specialists that give me the same answers that he would have given me. I hope your experience in Asheville is good, and now I know not to move back to Florida with , we moved here from Bradenton right before I got pregnant with him. Good luck with your move. From: B. We had a " home graduation " for about 10 days ago. We skipped our last trip to Miami after deciding that 2 weeks wasn't going to make a difference. I thought I'd feel guilty about this, but after 6 mos. in a band, I really don't. Phew... So, three bands later... is no longer asymmetrical. I don't notice ANY real asymmetry anymore, which initially I was most aware of. However, he is still brachy enough to freak the hair stylist out at Fantastic Sams. I took him for his first hair cut last week to see if he would seem " rounder " with a little texture to the back. Well, when the stylist was spraying his hair and combing it back, she let out a gasp and asked me if his head was going to " stay that way. " Oh---what to answer to that question...right? I said that it probably would, most likely. I'm still angry at the Tampa Bay medical community. I feel very let down by the lack of attention to this condition and completely ticked off that the 'so called' specialists haven't done their homework regarding banding. Knowing that we started all of this at 's 8 week appt---and that we didn't get a working band until he was 8 months old just fries my butt. And this was NOT due to insurance. They had no part in the delay. It was the lousy docs, bad orthotist, etc... Ugh. I could go crazy about this...but I realize I just have to let it go. I know I did the best I could and I think that will get that. I just feel bad knowing that he could have gotten better correction had he started earlier. It just seems like a missed opportunity that I was more than willing to take. So---what seems left for us to address is 's upper gumline/bite. The plagio or the tort---not sure which one, has caused his upper gum to raise on the left side. It is unclear if he can chew on the left side---if his top and bottom teeth meet. My ped. recommended that we take to a ped. orthodontist---which, naturally, this backward city doesn't have---but Miami does. UGHhhhh. The GOOD news is that we are moving to Asheville, North Carolina next weekend---not that Asheville is a medical metropolis or anything, but it will be a nice change from our difficulties in Tampa. So, when we get settled up there, we will begin to check into this process/specialist. AND--- will begin his new life in NC band-free! So---aside from that, I just love my band-free little guy. His hair cut is soooo cute and his personality will overshadow the plagio. I feel sure of this. I just love kissing his sweet head. I want to thank the group for all their support. I have been certainly touched by the responses, concern and incredible knowledge the people in this group have. I KNOW THAT ALEX HAS BENEFITED FROM THIS and this makes me very happy. I'm also thankful to the wonderful people at CT in Miami. I am sad that we didn't get to terminate with all the people there. I'm not so good at good-byes, and my life is just full of them these days. I guess I took the easy way out. I plan to stick around for awhile in hopes of helping some future Floridians out, if needed. Thanks again everyone! B. Mom to B. Guest guest
Hi , Congratulations to you and . I'm glad he was able to get the assymetry resolved. I know what you mean about being frustrated with the medical community for not getting started earlier. We didn't get Matt in his band until 10 months and we started questioning them at 2 months. It seems the only support we got was from this list. Good luck with all your other issues and hopefully your move to NC wont be too stressful. Guest guest
Congratulations ! You did a great job getting the treatment he needed. I feel your frustration. As for NC, I live in SC and go to the Charlotte CT office. I think Asheville is in the NW area of the state. It may be a couple of hours from Charlotte. They have a good medical community there. There is also the Raleigh Durham area. You;ll be in good hands I'm sure. I'm still surprised Tampa doesn't have the specialists you need. Oh well, you'll be in NC soon. I hope your move goes well. Please keep us posted. Are you going to take your own version of "after" pics? If so please post them for us : ) mom to na B. has a quiet graduation Dear group members----For now, our plagio journey has come to an end. We had a "home graduation" for about 10 days ago.
