As I have said before, I work for Edix, and they consider MTDesk a " final answer " on how things are spelled if they can't be found anywhere else. While it's true that misspellings run rampant on the web, MTDesk is SUPPOSED to be reliable. As I said in an earlier email, I suspect it has to do with who makes the Z-PAK or Z-Pak or whatever. I bet yours was made by Pfizer.. correct me if I'm wrong. I've been trying to make some line count so I haven't researched the trademark website yet to see if I can get a " final answer " to this Z-Pak/Z-PAK debate, but I guess I'll have to do that won't I? I just wanted to back up why I answered the question the way I did. I know the docs I transcribe for could really care less which way I transcribed it. When I used to work in a doctor's office, I know for a fact they would write on the Rx pads Z-pack (yes w/ a " c " ). So as someone else said, whoever signs the check-------do it the way they want you to do it and that is JMO. I'm sure the Edix Q/A people would back me up typing Z-Pak since that's how it's listed on MTDesk as well as on RXList. As a matter of fact, I have it as a word expander/macro that way. LOL. It truly depends on where you work as to how " picky " you need to be. As I've said, I work for Edix, and I have to answer to the Editors/Q/A people. Believe it or not, if I spell a drug wrong, it's considered a " patient care error " and I get in BIG trouble for it to the point where I could lose my job. I'm sure I'm not the only one on this list with that sort of issue. At the risk of repeating myself, " whoever signs the paycheck makes the rules " . My point is, since I know (because of feedback I've gotten from Edix editors) that MTDesk is one of the main sources they use for the final word on spellings, that means since I found Z-Pak on MTDesk, that's the way I have to spell it.
