I checked out your son's pic, he's a cutie! He definitely has the

I'm so glad you feel comfortable here. If you ever have any

I just looked at on's photo - it looks exactly like our

daughter Remy when she was born! Remy was a big baby, 9 1/2 lbs. I

think she just ran out of room, because the whole back side of her

head was flat at birth. Was on's flatness noticeable at birth

also? Remy developed plagio in addition to her brachy after she was

born. I have some of her progress photos in the PHOTOS section,

BEFORE AND AFTER folder, REPOSITIONED folder, if you would like to

see what kind of flatness we were dealing with. She was 5 months

old when we started repo.

There is a new study that was just published this month that you may

be interested in... it shows that brachycephaly may be more

difficult to correct than plagiocephaly. You may want to take this

into consideration when deciding what your repo deadline may be, and

how early you would like to consider a helmet/band for your baby, if

you are open to that option. This study is in the LINKS section,

but I'll also copy and paste it here (if the link is 2 lines long,

you may need to copy and paste the entire link to get directed

properly.)

Molding Helmet Therapy in the Treatment of Brachycephaly and

Plagiocephaly. (pub. Jan 2004)

Overall, the children with posterior plagiocephaly normalized their

head shapes; however, the head shapes of the children with

positional brachycephaly did not normalize despite statistically

significant improvements in their Cephalic Index. It is concluded

that molding helmet therapy is an effective treatment of position-

induced head shape abnormalities. Helmet therapy is more effective

in children with posterior positional plagiocephaly than in children

with positional brachycephaly.

Hi & welcome!

I just checked out on's picture (love the name!), and I'd say

he has brachycephaly as well.

Definitely keep repositioning him as best as you can. Good luck at

your appt next month. Please keep us posted. Also keep taking

weekly or bi-weekly pictures of on's head to monitor progress.

Christie,

Thanks for your response. After you questioned whether or not this

was noticable at birth, I looked back at some of my son's birth

pictures, and wow, I DO see that he had this at birth! I added some

pictures for others to see and maybe give me their opinion as to what

they think. Even at birth, it looks like he had a flattening of the

back of his head. I will take these pictures to the specialist when

we go, so he can see and maybe give us better information as to how

well he can be expected to respond to treatment. Thanks for

enlightening me!
