Guest guest
Hi, When we had helmet fitted for the first time, after half an hourof testing it, there was a red mark on head about 10mm diameter. Dr. Blecher got a lipstick and marked the spot on head with the lipstick. He then put the helmet back on and then took it off, there was then a mark on the inside of the helmet, that was causing the problem. He then used a small grinding tool, to take a little out of the foam where the lipstick mark was. You could try this if you wish, but only if the red mark is small on your childs head. To take just a little out, you could use a very fine sand paper on the inside of the helmet, by hand. Ian. problem with helmet > Hi All, > > I just wanted to get the opinion of all of you. Guest guest
Please, please do NOT try this. You could really compromise the integrity of your son's band. And if you happened to botch his band up, you'd be out $1500.00 --- In Plagiocephaly , " Ian REDMAN " <IanAdele@r...> wrote: > Hi, > > When we had helmet fitted for the first time, after half an hourof > testing it, there was a red mark on head about 10mm diameter. > Dr. Blecher got a lipstick and marked the spot on head with the > lipstick. > He then put the helmet back on and then took it off, there was then a mark > on the inside of the helmet, that was causing the problem. > > He then used a small grinding tool, to take a little out of the foam where > the lipstick mark was. > > You could try this if you wish, but only if the red mark is small on your > childs head. > > To take just a little out, you could use a very fine sand paper on the > inside of the helmet, by hand. > > Ian. > problem with helmet > > > > Hi All, > > > > I just wanted to get the opinion of all of you. Guest guest
Hi Tris, I would be hestitant to have my son wear the helmet until and adjustment is made. Especially if he seems so uncomfortble in it. But I know what you mean feeling like you are wasting valuable time..... When you make your appointment with the orthotist you want to make sure that this problem is resolved this time, especially since he is only around every 2 weeks! Is there anyone else you might be able to see at their office in the interim? We had a 2 to 2.5 hour drive to our clinic. I knew it was common that a band could need a few adjustments when you first get it to ensure a good fit. I did not want to have to drive back up the next day, so what I planned out with my orthotist was to go in the morning. They kept him in the band in their office for a bit (maybe 1/2 hour?) and checked for red spots. They did the lipstick trick Ian mentioned and made an adjustment. Then we waited for for the red spots to fade completely and put the helmet back on. After that, we went to a near by mall for about 2 to 2.5 hours, and returned to the clinic. They made one more adjustment and we hung around some more until the red spots faded. After we got home we did our periodic checks and everything was fine. So it made for an awfuly long first day, but we did not have to drive back up to the clinic. Hopefully, your orthotist can accomodate you to ensure that this next adjustment does the trick. Good Luck! /DOC/10-7-03 @10mos./PAtrijess3 <trijess3@...> wrote: Hi All,I just wanted to get the opinion of all of you. Guest guest
I agree with here! I'm not sure if there is someone else in the office you could see, but I would much rather go with the band on than to screw it beyond repair. Let us know how things are going.
