Guest guest
my daughter Jenna was STARbanded from 9 to 12 months. You can see he pictures in the before and after under Jenna. I recently posted an updated picture. On January 21, 2004 was her 1 year aniversary of being done. She also has more photos un her other jENNA FOLDER. She received approximately 80% correction. Follow your instincts. Babies at 9 months and older have received excellent correction! please let us know how the visit goes. Angie and Jenna(STAR grad 1/21/03) New to group - need to vent please Hello.I have never posted before but have been reading messages for awhile now. I think this is a terrific group and I hope you don't mind that I've come here to vent. My DD had a GI visit today. The nurse we see there usually does a pretty thorough exam and when she was feeling her head I told her how DD was getting fitted for her STARband tomorrow (we are going through CIRS in Palo Alto, I saw some other posts out there regarding this facility but I can't really comment yet). Well, she went on and on about how she didn't think dd needed one (pointing out her facial symmetry, but it's the back of her head thats very flat). And how studies have shown there is no difference in head shape by three years of age from babies that wore helmets and those who didn't and that it's all about brain growth, that dd is too old to see any results (she's almost 9 months) yadda yadda yadda. I WISH I had politely told her that I have made my decision to do everything I can for my baby and to just stick to the GI issues, but I didn't. Instead I left there feeling upset and angry.I am already alittle nervous about tomorrow even though I know I am making the right decision. And I know everyone has a right to their own opinion, but maybe they should just be alittle more sensitive to how and when they choose to voice it. Ah, I feel better now.Can anyone tell me if they've seen good results in babies who started around 9 months? Thanks for listening. Sorry for it being so long. Guest guest
Dear new friends - I have a question as a new grandmother. My daughter and her husband are due on March 12 to deliver (c-section) my first grandson. Needless to say, we are excited! Brady is breach and during yesterday's sonogram, it was noted that his head is oval-shaped. Although their doctor has assured them that this is nothing and is occuring because he is breach, they are worried sick. Brady has lost a little weight to - but the doctor is not concerned about that either. The reason this is so upsetting to them is that on August 23, 2002, had a beautiful baby girl - perfect in every way. Because of the doctor's (different doctor) misuse of forceps, died six days later. She then lost her second baby due to 's syndrome. Now they are worried sick that there is something wrong with Brady. My son-in-law said he thought the doctor called it donocephalic (sp?). Please. Has anyone every heard of this or of a baby's head being oval-shaped because of the breach position. Thanks so much. Jo
Guest guest
Hi Jo, Welcome to the group. I'm so sorry to hear all that your family has gone through, it is heartbreaking. The word your looking for is dolichocephaly and you can learn more about it by going here: http://www.dolichocephaly.info/ This head shape can't be corrected through repositioning. If it's just scaphycephaly a band( http://www.cranialtech.com ) could correct it. If it's because the saggital suture is fused, surgery will be necessary. There isn't anyway to tell until he is born. Please keep us posted. You and your family will be in my prayers. > Dear new friends - > > I have a question as a new grandmother. Guest guest
Laurie, Like you said they should keep their mouth's shut - especially when they do not have all of the facts. Children 's age can and do see great improvement with active bands. The Star band is an active band. There are many factors that determine if a baby's head will round out on it's own. I think there are numerous parents who wish they hadn't been given that advice. The fact is they can't tell you which heads will round and which won't. Feel free to vent any time. Let us know how the fitting goes and post a picture if you can. mom to na DOC #1 10-27 to 11-26 DOC #2 12-10 @ 6 months South Carolina New to group - need to vent please Hello.I have never posted before but have been reading messages for awhile now.
