You are so funny Kate. So we're all just a bunch of nuts. I like that--it's fine with me. So tell me what is NF2/acoustic neuroma? I know I could look it up but I'm being lazy here. I think we should all sit still and just "be" sometimes. It brings an inner peace that is so lacking in this world. for Grace Fellowship and all searches using Goodsearch (which uses Yahoo's search engine) will result in about one cent being donated to Grace Fellowship. Not much, but it can become significant if we and others we tell consistently use Goodsearch for all our searches. For example, 100 people using Goodsearch for two searches a day will net us $730.00 a year. When you go to the site just type in Grace Fellowship Orthodox Presbyterian Church as the benefactor. This is right below the search bar. You can also change the benefactor with each search and help other non-profits of your choice (if they have an account). This is just a small snipet I copied and pasted..It is a genetic disorder of the nervous system. The NF2 type is not as common. My friend is almost completely deaf--I keep trying to talk him into coming out here and taking ASL classes at the NY school for the deaf--I need a buddy to go with me--I want to take classes, as I use ASL (American Sign Language) with the songs I teach at the nursery school I work at--I want to learn more! hugs...oops...the dad figure is freakin out, yelling at the young one who is trying to help him shovel...oh joy...the rage man reigneth!! later, kate

NF2 is less common. NF2 is characterized by bilateral (occurring on both sides of the body) tumors on the eighth cranial nerve. The tumors cause pressure damage to neighboring nerves. To determine whether an individual has NF2, a physician looks for bilateral eighth nerve tumors and similar signs and symptoms in a parent, sibling, or child. Affected individuals may notice hearing loss as early as the teen years. Other early symptoms may include tinnitus (ringing noise in the ear) and poor balance. Headache, facial pain, or facial numbness, caused by pressure from the tumors, may also occur.

Is there any treatment?

Treatments for both NF1 and NF2 are presently aimed at controlling symptoms. Surgery can help some NF1 bone malformations and remove painful or disfiguring tumors; however, there is a chance that the tumors may grow back and in greater numbers. In the rare instances when tumors become malignant (3 to 5 percent of all cases), treatment may include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. For NF2, improved diagnostic technologies, such as MRI, can reveal tumors as small as a few millimeters in diameter, thus allowing early treatment. Surgery to remove tumors completely is one option but may result in hearing loss. Other options include partial removal of tumors, radiation, and if the tumors are not progressing rapidly, the conservative approach of watchful waiting. Genetic testing is available for families with documented cases of NF1 and NF2. New (spontaneous) mutations cannot be confirmed genetically. Prenatal diagnosis of familial NF1 or NF2 is also possible utilizing amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling procedures.

What is the prognosis?

In most cases, symptoms of NF1 are mild, and patients live normal and productive lives. In some cases, however, NF1 can be severely debilitating. In some cases of NF2, the damage to nearby vital structures, such as other cranial nerves and the brainstem, can be life-threatening.

I am so sorry Sharon. Somehow my pc just skipped a bunch of emails, so I just caught this after having read at least 60 inbetween.

I was doing real well and we got a room moved upstairs and another one moved down plus making room for 2 boys to have a little room in my craft room which had become a storage room during the last couple of years of 's life. Therefore I am back in my chair for a while. I do need to do some cleaning etc tomorrow as there will be strangers going thru the house Thursday to do an appraisal to see if I can get some mo money to get the other house done.

No no more gunshots Thank God. I did get a pressure spot that ran hot and cold on the top of my head a couple of weeks after the gunshot. But all of those have dimmished down to tenderness now.

Sheri is going to try to find time to finish the walls and ceiling in this bathroom in the next couple of weeks. There is still work that needs to be done here if I am going to be able to rent it out for a couple of years and then sell. I am sort of hoping I can get family in here but then that could mean that they would expect me to let the rent slide whenever they wanted to spend the money elsewhere. Oh well we will see what happens.
