Guest guest Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Welcome to the group Ginny. If you take a look at the files you wil find alot of information in them about nutrition, anxiety, supplements and so on. Do please tell us some more details of your situation. How are you reducing, are you withdrawing by just 5-10% at a time? Whats your diet like? If you can give us as much detail as possible, it is easier for us to help you. Guest guest Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Hi Ginny, Welcome to the list. You are in the right place. I am so glad you found us before you got very far with going off the Geodon. We have found that cold turkey withdrawal (which includes tapering too fast) is very dangerous, and that the horrible withdrawal symptoms last forever. We recommend discontinuing only one drug at a time. In increments of no more than 5-10%, then waiting 2-3 weeks or until we feel stable before making the next cut. The pills can be tapered in a variety of ways, depending on their form (tablet, capsule, liquid, etc). However, time-release drugs can never be cut. Anyone on a time release, such as most forms of Wellbutrin, will need to switch to the non-time-release version first. I am not sure which of your 3 drugs you should tackle first, but Kim can probably tell you that. Meanwhile, look over the files that were sent when you joined. Especially the one on supplements and the one on eating for recovery. These files are also available on our Yahoo Groups homepage. I joined last May, and have been tapering Zyprexa ever since. Zyprexa is almost the same as Geodon. I've gone very slowly and am almost done. I feel great and my mental functioning has returned. There is lots of hope here. Yahoo! Guest guest Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 I have tapered my Wellbutrin back from 450 mg to 300 mg, and have been trying to taper off the Geodon, but how do you taper off if it is in a capsule form? Right now I eat a diet that is high in protein since carbs knock my blood sugar out of control. I also use flaxseed oil since it is high in omega 3 & 6. The doctor told me I could either get off the Geodon or stay on the Geodon and start using insulin. Seems like a no brainer to me. Quote
Guest guest Posted January 18, 2006 Report Posted January 18, 2006 Ginny, <<The doctor told me I could either get off the Geodon > or stay on the Geodon and start using insulin. Seems like a no > brainer to me.>> LOL, yup! Just withdraw from one drug at a time. It's easier for your body that way. Stay where you are with the wellbutrin, and start on the geodon. I believe Geodon has powder inside the capsules. Dump the powder into 10 ounces of spring water or seltzer and remove one ounce, then drink the rest (to make a 10% reduction). Stay at this dose for at least two weeks, then see how you feel before deciding to make the next reduction. <<I also use flaxseed oil since it is high in omega 3 & 6.>> Flaxseed oil is fine to use for salad dressing and such, but you REALLY need to take fish oil. We recommend Carlson's liquid, as it is very high quality for the price. You don't need Omega-6s, because most people have too much of them in their diet already. You need Omega-3s, and it's quite a challenge for your body to make Omega-3s out of the flax oil. You get it much more directly from fish oil, and it is much more effective. You can take up to 10 grams a day of this stuff. Get some magnesium citrate, some calcium, and a good multi (Supralife or Garden of Life). The Supralife Mineral Toddy is also an excellen, excellent product that no-one should be without. has been working her way off Geodon. She may have some advice for you.
