How EXACTLY does the helmet work?

Ok, this may sound like a really lame question seeing as I've already paid for the treatment and Ian is already wearing the helmet but...

My husband asked me how the helmet works. Does it somehow mold his head? Or, does it just prevent pressure being put on certain parts? How exactly does it 'tell' the head wear to grow?

Does that make sense? Can someone explain it to me because when my hubby asked I was like.....uh...hmmmm....well...ummm...I guess....hmmm!

Thanks,

Melisa

Hi,

If I'm not mistaken the LL helmet is passive, meaning it relies

totally on growth. The helmet sits on the baby's head and eventually

the baby's head grows into the shape of the helmet, round.

So, since Ian's helmet is 'passive' does that mean his treatment will take longer than it would've with a different type of helmet/band? Or, does it just depend on his growth?

Hi Melisa,

The LLUMC helmet isn't as " active " as say the DOC or Starbands, but

it does apply approx. 3 lbs of pressure per sq. inch. Because it is

more passive in design, it relys on your baby's growth to mold the

baby's head into shape as he grows. I hope this helped.
