Guest guest
Hi Michele, I can't answer all your questions, but I can answer the one about the neck tilt. My daughter is 6 months old and was born with torticollis. We have done the exercises by ourselves since she was 2 months old. There has been a huge difference but not enough that she doesn't still tilt it. We decided to begin her with a physical therapist and a chiropractor to help her along as per her pediatrician. Yes the muscles will get stronger and with the right help will go away, but I believe that we can only do so much - the rest we need help on. I hope this helps. in Florida (mother to daughter Jenna Rose)
Guest guest
Hi all, I have 5 1/2 month old b/b twins who received their DOC band one week ago. They are doing quite well with them. I definitely think it's harder on me (although I am getting used to the bands). I have a few questions for you: 1. The band is falling quite low (the boys' eyelashes actually hit the band sometimes). We had the band trimmed on Friday, but it still seems low. Our therapist said that she had to be careful about trimming it anymore because my boys have some assymetries. Will the band always ride low like this? 2. We are doing stretching exercises 5 times a day. The boys still seem tight and also have a slight neck tilt. Will exercises alone help this or should we see a PT? Do children work their way out of this when their necks become stronger? I definitely don't want them to get used to having their neck in this tilted position. 3.. One of our boys measured 9mm an ear assymetry. What range is this and do you think the band can correct it? Thank you so much. mommy to Blaine Kennedy and Coulter (DOC bands)
Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. What kind of bands are the boys wearing? DOC, Star, local? Bands really shouldn't ride low but it seems like they may have done that on purpose for your boys' particular asymetries. My daughter's band kind of squished her eyebrow a bit. You can see some pics in the na folder. This was because of her facial asymetries. They were trying to get a good hold on her forehead. I asked every time to be sure it was still ok and they reassured me over and over. I would definitely keep an eye on it. Is it causing any redness near their eyebrows? Also, they do tend to grow into the bands, i.e. in a couple weeks it may not be an issue anymore. na also has/had tort. We are still doing the stretches even though she appears to have no residual tightness or tilt. She had a mild case. We started the stretches at home at 3 months. She is currently 7 1/2 months. Because she had a mild case and had no developmental delays we were not reffered to PT. Where are you located? We may have someone in your area going to the same clinic. & na DOC #1 10-27 to 11-26 DOC #2 12-10 @ 6 months > > From: " shelly4042000 " <mcsully5@...> > Date: 2004/01/18 Sun PM 11:09:28 EST > Plagiocephaly > Subject: New here- we have a few questions re: band and neck tilt > > Hi all, I have 5 1/2 month old b/b twins who received their DOC band one week ago. Guest guest
, I forgot to add. na started with 9 mm ear asymetry. After 4 weeks in her first band she was down to 7 mm. We are getting new measurements on Friday after 6 weeks in band 2. She was banded at 4.5 months. Ear asymetry can be fixed with the band. However, the tort exercises are very important!!! They loosen the muscles that connect to the skull near the ears and allow them to be corrected. Does that make sense? & na > > From: <filyaw@...> > Date: 2004/01/19 Mon PM 01:51:35 EST > <Plagiocephaly > > Subject: Re: New here- we have a few questions re: band and neck tilt > > Hi , Welcome to the group.
