Guest guest
Hi, Patsy. I live in Northern CA., and my local supermarket, Bel Air, carries them. After deducting the fiber content, there are only 6 carbs, per tortilla. I also understand that you can order low carb tortillas. I don't have the website, or url, for how to order. Can someone else help out here? Thanks! Sheila ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi Sheila, where do you get the low carb wheat tortillas? Guest guest
Hi All, I'm new to this group; old to diabetes. I have type II, and am taking oral meds and insulin. I've been on the atkins diet. I haven't lost much weight, but I've maintained bg in the 90-170 range, bp of about 110/80, and good cholesterol. My feet hurt most of the time. I've recently seen a couple of programs on TV about n Whitaker's Reversing Diabetes program, and it seems so whacky that I want to know more about it. He claims you can do away with oral meds on his program, but then who doesn't? Has anyone got any experience with his program? Guest guest
Hello stbrettell@... (Steve Brettell), In reference to your comment: è Recently I've found it harder to maintain my b/g on an è even keel, and to maintain interest in the diet. The è Whitaker program is so against anything I've ever read è that it caught my attention. I saw it presented on two è different public tv shows in a two day period, so thought è it worth looking at. Who knows? Check it out, try it for a couple of weeks, with lots of testing... If you are comfortable with your bs results, then enjoy, if not, then consider going back to something that works for you. ========Original Message======== Subj: Re: New Member Date: 9/20/01 7:12:08 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: stbrettell@... (Steve Brettell) Reply-to: diabetes_int To: diabetes_int Thanks for the response. I said that I've been on the Atkins Diet, but I lied. It's really the diet in the Bernstein book that I follow, but Atkins has more name recognition, so I've found it easier to use. Yes, 170 is high, but that's the top of the range that I'm trying for. The closer to 100 the better. I guess I average about 115, because I cheat some. Recently I've found it harder to maintain my b/g on an even keel, and to maintain interest in the diet. Guest guest
>>It surely is neuropathy. I can't feel anything but pain in my feet. I've got to find some solution, and so far, diet hasn't been working for me. I'm taking two oral meds and insulin, and still spiking to 170. So I have to keep working at it.>> **Again, I would suggest increasing your insulin and/or meds. Spikes to 170 on a low carb diet is not good, nor is it healthy, and definitely won't help your neuropathy. Also, diabetes, can escalate and change, which could be what's happening to you. Guest guest
This is n Whitaker's advice. I think I will pass. Since the 1930s, numerous studies have shown that a high-complex-carbohydrate, high-fiber diet can help you maintain healthy blood sugar levels, which is why I recommend that you make plant foods the mainstay of your meals. Virtually all plant foods in their original form contain complex carbohydrates and soluble fiber, which slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, promoting even blood sugar levels with out peaks and valleys. The best sources of soluble fiber are legumes (beans), oat bran, nuts, seeds, apples, and most vegetables Best Regards, Ratliff icq 1495914 msn ROBERT RATLIFF aim mtncurr22 http://www.copernic.com search engine http://www.ghisler.com> windows commander http://www.paltalk.com> voice/text chat <*> New Member Hi All, I'm new to this group; old to diabetes. Guest guest
My opinion, which is like a belly button or other anatomical part. We all have one and .... 1) I feel that financial planning is the most important thing we can do. We can do all sorts of studying. If we can't eat or pay the internet bill, we're dead in the water. 2) Next thing is hire a good board certified thinks-for-themselves physician. I've seen some of these allegedly alternative healthcare providers blowing smoke out of the same orifice that is referenced in the first sentenance of this post. I've had to go through a few physicians. One of them even got up and walked out of the room on me (I was polite!). I'm looking for a physician that will be my partner in health care. Some of these folks can't stand a question or two and or are afraid to say " I don't know, let me look it up " . Montel said he went through 20 physicians. Somebody on one of these chat boards referenced a CAM (complimentary alternative Medicine) physician website. 3) at the same time step two is occurring, clean the diet up. There are others around that are better qualified than I am to answer these questions. One site I've seen referenced here is www.msreversed.com Mercola also has what appears to be a decent book on diet (the recipes are a bit complex for me though) > > Hi, my name is and I was just diagnosed with MS several weeks > ago.
