Guest guest
I hope someone here can make suggestions for a friend whose 18yo is expressing lots of physical aggression lately. I don't know how long the episodes last, but he is bigger than both mom and dad who have a time getting him calmed. The attacks begin with a flushed face and heavy sweating yet the skin is cold and clammy. Mom wonders if these might be symptoms of heart damage from rheumatic fever from possible old strep left undiagnosed/untreated and is considering an EKG. Strep does run in the family. Mom reports a healthy veggie-filled diet --did gfcf for a couple of years but not for the past few years. Mom pulled all supps after the last episode. I don't think he's on meds right now, though he did take risperodol (sp) at one time. Can this med cause permanent side effects? Recently starting with a new DAN, the usual battery of testing has been freshly redone. My adult son with autism has not experienced these symptoms so I didn't have much to offer my friend other than the usual magnesium/phoschol/dha stuff for calming. On the lists, it seems that aggression is often diet related. Could there be hormonal links related to sexual frustration in some of our autistic boys who are growing into young men? Insights and advice will surely be appreciated as this guy's happy spirit rarely shows up anymore.
