Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 The only danger in stopping Lipitor is the original high cholesterol may return, but I would start hom on some Armoru to prevent that. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ Quote

Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 , I just tried to look up that info on the alt/med site and found a little but the site was busy and couldn't get as much as usual. From what I did find, from JoAnn Guest who posts there a lot is to adjust it down 25% at a time, but I don't know how often to do that. I'll post something and see if I can find more. I would imagine every few days a reduction of 25% might do the trick. Does your husband take CoQ10? If not he should start, if he's been taking statins, he should have been on this already. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 - is it financially feasible for him to see a naturopath about switching over to alternative treatments? If he wants to try high- dose niacin, it is a good idea to be monitored. Some naturopaths do take insurance (mine does). Is his cardiologist open to alternative treatments (ha-ha-ha)? Here are some links for locating an NP: http://www.naturopathic.org/ http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/regional-A.html http://www.acam.org According to this, you don't need to wean off of Lipitor/statins: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=61672 http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=376536 The HealthBoards above have a high cholesterol board. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Linn, Thank you for the suggestion. I imagine he could use my pill splitter although I don't remember what Lipitor pills look like or how easy they'd be to split. Your alt/med group sound wonderful...are they open to new members? Thanks for posting my querry there and thanks to everyone for your support in this. Every little bit of stress reduction helps me right now as I'm battling negative emotions from having to wean off my thyroid meds. The good news is that today was my first day on HC and I'm no longer in wait-and-see mode there. Thanks again Linn, Linn wrote: , I just tried to look up that info on the alt/med site and found a little but the site was busy and couldn't get as much as usual. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 The alt/med group is open. Just go to Alternative_Medicine_Forum- subscribe to join. It is more of an informative group though, not as much talking back and forth as most groups. The moderator doesn't allow much of that, there are too many people on it, almost 5000 members so it would get a little nuts if that happened. Tons of good medical info but there is also a lot of political info so be forewarned. There's a lot of politics involved in medicine so they kind of go hand in hand. I have to limit myself sometimes in hanging out there because I'm such a nosy rosy I have to read most everything and it takes a ton of time. Lengthy info, no complaints there for long posts. The files in their links will keep you busy for a couple of weeks or more if you wanted to do research. They expect you to research first before asking questions that can be found easily. With that many members it's understandable why. Also the moderator, , is ill now, I understand, and has several other people helping out. Linn > Linn, > > Thank you for the suggestion. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 , Your post made me laugh...we live in south Florida where the level of medical care is worse than sub-standard. Florida is an HMO state and we have tons of retirees. Doctors here spend less time and give more prescriptions that you would ever believe! I went through being a patient advocate with both my parents and my husbands mother. I had to fight, fight, fight for every test, every referral to a specialist and even when we got to a specialist, we were very disappointed. We're lucky to have D.O.s here! There are some naturopaths, but they are very far and between. So while your suggestion is very much appreciated, it's a reminder of how much we need this group and the Internet to stay healthy. Heck, I just shipped my mother, who had lived here for 85 years, to South Carolina. She's in end stage congestive heart failure. She was there only five days before needing to be hospitalized and WOW what a difference!!! They actually listened to her complaints about pain in her legs (her legs are purple and so swollen they ooze fluid). Three surgeries were performed to remove blood clots and she's doing much, much better. Doctors here would have never looked for clots, would have never performed this surgery here in HMOville. Be glad you have better resources for good medical care! Thanks much! jtb14789 wrote: - is it financially feasible for him to see a naturopath about switching over to alternative treatments? Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Linn, I took 2.5 mgs of HC at 7:30 AM according to the STTM recommendations for dosing. Not sure how to tell when to level off. I think my heart will tell me. Some schools of thought say you need less than 20 mgs of HC to effectively treat adrenal issues. Going slow is always best. There's a bug floating around our office and I think that's what I've got. Don't know if it's the anti-histamine or the HC, but I'm feeling better today. Emotions are still iffy. I'll be so glad to get back on thyroid meds. Patience IS a virtue! Linn wrote: , Hope you're feeling better soon. How did you feel on the HC today? Linn > Linn, > > Thank you for the suggestion. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 I've used a lower dose of HC than most people with success. I've kept it under 12 mgs the whole time. I take 5 in the morniing, 3.75 at lunch and 2.5 in the afternoon. On a very few occasions I've taken another 1.25 later in the evening or at bedtime. That's the highest I've ever gone and it's worked well. Now I'm cutting the morning dose first and then will cut out the afternoon dose next. So far haven't noticed any difference, but we'll see how long it lasts after I'm totally off for a few weeks. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Did you have saliva testing done to know where your cortisol levels were prior to starting the HC??? And how do you know when to wean off??? When you feel optimized on thyroid meds I'm assuming, right? Linn wrote: I've used a lower dose of HC than most people with success. Guest guest Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 No testing done beforehand. I'm just guessing it's time, I've gone over a month now with no symptoms, have handled a lot of stress and done just fine, so checked with Val and she said it sounded like it might be time to try.
