Guest guest
What you need to do, is make an appointment with your school's financial aid advisor, and with a guidance counselor at the school. They'll help you answer most of those questions. The good news is that there are plenty of student aid packages out there, and student loans, and it sounds like you would definitely qualify for a low income related student aid package. > > > > > > > I hate being needy and asking questions all the time but I need help > on this. > > I have applied for college, I am sure I will get in, have a few weeks > to wait to be sure but my real problem is going. > > First how do I pay for it? Yes. Surf around the college's web site to see what kind of advising offices they have (financial, academic, maybe a disability office). Guest guest
Hi Bigearbob, Please see below for a few ideas: bigearbob2000 wrote: I hate being needy and asking questions all the time but I need help on this. I feel great if I can help. When I am needy, you can help me too. I have applied for college, I am sure I will get in, have a few weeks to wait to be sure but my real problem is going. You can do this! First how do I pay for it? I have been without work for a year now and my wife makes minimum wage, we live 4 hours away from where the university is so commute isn't an option and my wife cant support us in a city while I go to college. So how do I go about getting loans for housing when I don't live in the area? How do I come up with money to be able to move? Is there loans or grants that can help with this? One thing that might help is to petition to be allowed to live off campus, in a room. It can be cheaper than living on campus with a mandatory board contract, especially if you will not be able to eat some of the food that is offered, anyway. Also, you might be able to get a room that is more to your liking. Be close enough to walk or bike in, so that you do not need a car. that will cut expenses, too. Will your husband be supportive? that can really help a lot. Also how do I survive a university setting? I went to a tech school before, classes where small and I was with the same people all the time so after a few weeks I was comfortable but there this wont be an option. Form a study group with a few people you know. get to know the same people. The first few days, take careful notes aobut appearances (non-facial characteristics), so that you can remember who people are. Height, weight, hair color (warning- subject to change!), shape of hands, voice, accent, long nose/short nose/fat nose, moles, be creative! Copy the website about prosopagnosia early, and disclos! that way, nobody will be offended if you slip. I think I offended people in clooege a lot by not recognizing them- I disclosed, but they did not believe me0- tiill they discovered that I have an incredible memory for names. That helped! they finally believed me! If there is doubt, refer them to one of the websites quickly. And finally how do I figure out what to go for? I have narrowed my options to Economics, Political Science, Mathematics and Philosophy. I like philosophy but that alone wont get me far I dont think. Generally the university I am looking to go to wants it to promotes it as something to use as a double major. Mathematics, I am good with the stuff, understand it but it doesnt excite me. Mathematics would be a great minor for you then, because you might be able to apply it to a special interest, while not actually majoring in it. Economics I really enjoy, not sure why. I could honestly see myself enjoying this position, maybe people would finally listen to me when I tell them how to save money if I had a degree supporting me. If you are good in mathematics, then economics would be easy and fun for you! Take utility theory, calculus, probability, statistics, differential equations-- all toward economics. I could point you in a few excellent directions here. You could easily do market calculations (e.g. be a quant), and be rich- and maybe, one day, give back to the community at large. Political Science, this to me seems an odd one for autistics, considering how important lies and socail games are for this field. yet for some reason I love it. I have watched elections and other political stuff on TV and researched it since I was... hmm fourth grade I think?? My only fear is that dealing with the social games that this field seams to require might not be something I can do, although I seem to be able to understand the lies. I can pick up on what is truth and what isnt fast and I really dont understand why. Anyone have any experience in this field, one similar or have links or info on autistics that are? If you do choose economics, an interest in political science could really come in handy, if you wind up managing a mutual fund, say. I believe that economics fits all four of your interests, but most easily the last three. Any help would be awesome. Your getting into college and succeeding at anything you try will be awesome as well. You cn do this!
