Has anyone experienced issues with severe constipation with their loved ones?

If so, what do you recommend? My sister is on Seroquel and also stool

softeners. She doesn't eat very well and due to her limited ability to walk

hardly no exercise. She has been in a lot of pain and discomfort.

Thanks,

My mom gets a prune puree every day to help her along. There is a product out

there specifically for this but I can’t remember the name – hoping someone

will write in with the name.

Miralax is the over-the-counter medication recommended by nearly all MDs.

Hi ,

My husband was having the problem, and now is having terrible bloat

and pain. The doctors here had him start using:

1. Citrucell twice daily.

2. MiraLax once daily. (we buy ClearLax at Walmart... cheaper and

the same thing.)

3. A stool softener daily

This has not helped the intestinal pain, but, it appears to have

helped the constipation.

His Neurologist says that there can be a blockage in the intestine

with softer stool passing around the blockage, thus they are passing

stool, but there is still constipation.

Hi ,

We give our Mom Milk of Magnesia chewable tablets (usually 3 or 4 every

afternoon) or, and we try to give her soup daily that is rich in

fiber/veggies/etc. that help the process. We use the liquid form, too, on

occasion, and that seems to be a bit stronger than the tablets.

Hope this helps. It's difficult to figure out the right balance, sometimes.

Regards,

Helene

I got this idea from a NYT article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/01/health/01care.html?_r=2

Choclate covered raisins. I don't offer them to him. I just put them in a bowl

next to the cookie jar and let him discover them. He gobbles them up. It seems

to help.
