It sounds like you have a good system in Willianson County. However, I do not think it is fair to compare apples to watermelons. MedStar is constantly hiring with new people coming in weekly...as we have been doing since RM's takeover of the system 15 months ago. We also " raised the proverbial bar " which caused us to lose a few, some voluntarily, some involuntarily. This system is also quite different from your system. It is a high performance, high call-volume system running calls in Fort Worth and 13 surrounding communities. We service nearly 800,000 people and run almost 80,000 calls per year. We also cover alot of miles. You are correct in that the contractor bid a particular price to run the service. The contractor has been spending the money .... in the hole .... to the tune of an excess of 100K per month to put qualified people on the streets. We just need more qulaified people. So, my suggestion would be that if you have any people that qualify for MedStar out of those 65 people you turn away .... please send them to Fort Worth! Additionally, you may not be aware that when the contractor took over the system, they took over with good faith that the information they were given was accurate. It was not. And, I could go on, but I won't, because it would serve no purpose. The point is, we need more good people. We WANT the system to work. Many have invested their EMS careers to working as EMT's and Paramedics in this system and want to see it succeed. And, the people we serve need us to be here and to be successful.
