Hi everyone, I am in and out of the site all the time as a lurker but

I have a questions for all you experts now.

I am going to get Logan (6.5 mnths) fitted for his band on Friday.

This is not cranial technologies (we tried to appeal our ins. co to

let us use them but was denied) it is Hanger Prosetics. I wanted to

know what questiosn should I ask of this orthotist before proceeding

with the casting process?

Thank you much!

  • 5 months later...

Hi. I have 7 month old twin boys and one of them has plagio. We noticed it

when he turned 3 months old. He was colicky from 2 weeks to almost 4 months

and during that time he would only turn his head to the right. SO now, he

has a flat spot on the right, ears misaligned and same thing, right side of

head is a little forward. That time, the ped mentioned in passing about

helmeting/banding but said it's still too early, wait and see if it's

correcting itself and try not to let the baby stay on the flat side.

Now at 7 months, my baby has been turning his head both ways for 2 months

already but still has plagio. And I honestly don;t think it's gonna correct

itself without banding. We just went to Cranial Tech for an evaluation.

I'm gonna have my son banded no matter what. I feel so guilty not acting

out earlier after reading about future problems that may arise like jaw

problems, migraines, eyeglasses that won;t fit, etc.

Questions??

Hi - is anyone there? I am concerned my son has plagio and am really

worried.

He has had a flat spot area on the right side on the back of his

head. I ask about it at every appt, and have been told it will

correct itself, but he just turned 6 months and it is as apparent as

ever. His forehead bulges and his ears to appear to be uneven. He

is able to turn his head in all directions, so I am not as worried

about torticollis, but he just likes to sleep on that side of his

head. Help!

Thanks for your quick reply! I live in Peoria, Illinois. I have

been looking at your site, and already feel better. Is there any

way to differentiate between plagio and the more serious conditions

that cause head malformation?

Are you concerned about craniosynostosis? It's best to have a CT scan

done to rule out cranio which is premature fusion of the skull bones

and can only be corrected thru surgery, not a band or helmet.

Check out www.cappskids.org for some good cranio information.

Is Peoria near Oakbrooke IL (Chicago)? There's a Cranial Tech

location (2 I think now) there. I used that facility myself, they're

great! They use the DOCband and offer free evaluations that you don't

need a referral from a Dr for. You may want to look into that -

their website is www.cranialtech.com

Good luck, keep us posted.

where are you located. maybe there is someone in your area that can reccommend a specialist. Have you checked the database. There maybe a contact person for your area.

Please keep us posted and let us know if we can offer any help.

Hello and welcome... If you are concerned the most

probably you are right. Mom's intuition I guess. Where are you

located? I would try to get some specialist, with experience with

DOC Band, Star Band or local helmets, to evaluate your son. Most

peds disregard plagio as s descriptive term for a mishappen head and

they truly believe it will round by itself. Sometimes it happens...

most times it doesn't happen.

Your son is at a great age to start the treatment so please let us

know where are you located. Maybe some member of our group has first

hand information that you will be able to use.
