Hi All,

Well I had my staples taken out today and went and weighted for the first

time sense I've been home. I was shocked to find out that I have lost 30#. I

am so happy that I started to cry at the Drs. office. I feel great and keep

doing my walking every day, and taking my supplements.

Hi Lynda,

What an encouragement you are to me. Right now I am sitting here wishing I

was more like a month post-op instead of 6 days. It's good to hear your

progress! Congrats on the 30lbs. That's awesome!!!!!!

in California :)

  • 1 year later...

Hi EveryOne,

Up until the past 10 years I was one of those people who could eat

everything and even more than most, and still be thin. Then I became Hypo...

....wow that changed everything fast!

I managed to lose weight from 180 to 150 last year, before I ever took

Armour but I used a _small_ amount of Ma Huang, (about 4mg once a day) and I

was hungry for those months of weight loss. Still, I did lose 30 lbs. weight

even while hypo.

I started on Armour in June this year and am currently taking 2 grains, one

grain twice a day. My temperature is almost normal most of the time but I

still can't eat over 1,100 calories a day and lose any weight. I am 5'8 "

tall. I gained back 10 lbs over the winter so started at 160 this time. I

have lost 7 lbs in the last two months or so but I am hungry every day and

eating less than 1,100 calories a day. This time I am not using any ephedra

or anything else,... so far.

So, - for me at least, _it is possible_ to lose weight while being Hypo

either with or without thyroid hormone but it is not possible to lose weight

without cutting calories sufficient to cause hunger. I have done a lot of

fasting in the past including two 40 day fasts and many shorter ones and I

know what is hunger and what is not. When you fast you are not hungry after

the first day or so, when you go with less calories than you need, (so that

the fat will be used instead) you are hungry most of time. I would fast to

lose weight this time but the last time I fasted for two weeks - I lost 0

lbs!

It is possible that the Atkins, So. Beach or similar lowcarb diet would work

as well and not cause hunger but right now, I don't want to give up the

peaches, berries and sweet corn of summer harvest time. Maybe in winter.....

....

I would love to hear other people's experience with weight loss while being

hypo. It definitely makes a big difference but weight loss is still possible

just, IMHO, extremely difficult!

Peace, Love and Harmony,

Bev
