Guest guest
Debbie, that's terrific! Of course it's you working! And the weight loss didn't hurt, either. Isn't it amazing how little we miss those things when we've gotten through the witdrawal phase? DH was eating bread and butter last night, and I asked for a bite. He of course gave it to me, and I had a small bite, then returned it, mumbling " Well, that certainly wasn't worth it! " I learned when I tried to go low fat that I didn't really like a lot of the starches I thought I couldn't live without. Grits, popcorn, regular corn, potatoes, white rice. They're just carriers for butter and salt! Now, when I want butter and salt, I put it on fish and go to town! Robin G. Guest guest
TY Robin, The thing I miss the most is plain ole smashed taters. But I finally figured out that I CAN live without them, and that I'll be all the better for it. Altho I do wish for a banana now and again - just can't have it, seeing as how it spikes me wicked!! Guest guest
Yayayayayay Joan!!! What wonderful news. I guess for some of us watching carbs is the only way we get to see an improvement. Got dr Bernstein's book from Library (interlibrary loan) Fri, and am now finishing it. I'm not sure I can be as restricted as he wants, but if I am getting such good results now, well, maybe someday. LOL Debbie
Guest guest
Debbie, steamed and smashed celery root (with a little milk or cream) is a dead ringer in looks for mashed potatos and the taste, while not the same, is close enough. However, since it is a root veggie I limit my portion to 100 grams...but I think it's an acceptable substitute for mashed potatos. Ocassionally I do run into places that won't do this, so I just eat everything off the crust for pizza, or like a sub, everything but the bread. carol ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Dave, This particular restaurant puts the hot subs in a styrofoam container. It would get kind of messy the other way. Guest guest
I have done cauliflower, and while the " mouth feel " is very much the same, it isn't quite the taste. I do enjoy mashed cauliflower tho. Thanks for reminding me! Debbie

Guest guest
I bet it does Dave. I live in the boonies, but not down a dirt road. Here's a recipe for pizza where the hamburg is the crust, that was sent to this list a while back by Marr. Low Carb Pizza Crust: 1 1/2 lbs hamburger 1 egg 2 tsp. Italian seasonings 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. onion powder 1 tsp. garlic powder Whisk egg in bowl, add spices, and mix. Add in hamburger and mix. Spread on pizza pan or in pie plate. Bake at 350* for 20 mins. Drain juice and pat dry 1 cup cheddar cheese 1 cup Monterey jack cheese 1/2 cup asiago cheese some spaghetti sauce salami, pepperoni, canned mushrooms Spread some spaghetti sauce on top of hamburger. Sprinkle generously with some of the cheeses. Top with salami, pepperoni, and mushrooms. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top. Bake @ 350* till cheese is melted and everything is hot.
