Way to go, n! Get him involved in it. Eventually he's going to have

to do it himself anyway. Just hope he isn't math impaired like I am! :-)

I'm always fascinated by what triggers diabetes. I do believe some time back

we did a little informal survey and there were a lot of people whose diabetes

was triggered by some flu-like illness. I know mine was. (However, I

already was hypothyroid and had Sjogren's, which is an autoimmune disorder).

Thanks for the explanation. Must be scarey as hell when you at first

don't know what is going on.

Not too many years back there would not have been as good a resolution.

Great way to practice practical math application. This way, he can start

feeling like he has some control over his DM without ALL the burden and

responsibility, because you are still there for backup.

n, that's a great idea - the cards and getting him involved in his

dosing. And I, too, hope there is a cure before he's out on his own.

I have five sisters (plus a brother, who died). We were youngsters before

all the vaccines were available, and couldn't have afforded them if they

were available. When one of us caught something, like measles, mumps, or

whooping cough, all the others came down with it, one by one. I read that

type 1's tend to be large babies and be big for their age up until school

age. That tells me that - in additon to exposure to a virus - type 1's are

different genetically from birth. Studies also show that exposure to cows'

milk from birth predisposes people to type 1. How does Gabe fit in? How

about your other children?

I agree with Vicky! There are times when I have no idea what the original
