Guest guest
Hi all. Thought I would add my 2 cents on this topic. I stopped drinking alcohol before I started taking anti-depressants and before I was dx with fibro. But I do think that when I started to develop the fibro, that is when I could no longer tolerate alcohol. I used to drink only on occasion, and a lot more when I was too young to be drinking. Several years ago, it started making me sick after one drink. But that is just me!! HUGS,
Guest guest
See, with me it's funny... I think it really depends WHAT I drink... I love white russians, I usually put in equal parts of Stoli Vanilla and Kahlua, and 2 parts milk (2%, because that's all we have in the house and cream upsets my stomache too much - add on lactose intolerance to IBS and the other list of stomache problems). But one of these is all I can usually handel, of course the ones I make at home are about 2x the size of the ones you get at the bar. So I guess it's 2 drinks... but then I start feeling " buzzed " and stop. I can choke down a Bud light or two once in awhile, but it's the taste of beer that bothers me more then anything else. I've never drank enough beer to get me " buzzed " , let alone drunk. " Malt Beverages " - like Bacardi Raz or Mike's Hard Lemonade - about one before I start feeling sick. I think it's a combo of the sugar and insanely high levels of carbonation. Any vodka... I need the higher shelf stuff or I feel sick right away. Stoli, Grey Goose, Three Olives, etc. I can handel maybe one drink with Absolut before getting sick, and I'll get sick right away if it's bottom shelf. This might be because I got alcohol poisioning on cheap vodka. Vodka also is what gets me drunk the quickest, except... .....Tequila. 2 shots, I'm gone. If it's cheap, I get sick. I used to be able to drink most anyone under the table with tequila. Now, I barely touch the stuff. But, I don't get a hangover when I do drink it. Wine. One glass and I start feeling really good. Two and I'm " buzzed. " But I can only drink white wine, not very fond of red wine, and I can't drink wine spritzers or Pinot Grigio Jager, or " Jager Bombs. " I can drink Jager like it's juice. And Jager Bombs are the " (un)official drink " of the Bomb Squad (which is the group of DJs from a local radio station which are all my friends), so we pretty much contribute to a whole lot of Jager and Red Bull sales on Sunday nights - in fact, I got a call last night because I didn't go out from one of the DJs; the first thing he said to me was " Liquor sales were down tonight. " I can drink 4 or 5 of these before getting anywhere near " buzzed. " And drink lighter drinks all night - like Amaretto sours (with a splash of 7). Most monday mornings I don't feel a thing, except being tired from being out all night; and if I don't start drinking water by 1am, I have slight muscle aches from drinking alcohol and being dehydrated. Haha, I guess I have " higher tastes " huh? I am not a cheap date. But then again, I'm also picky about who I do date... so he should consider himself lucky to be on a date with me! At least, this is what I keep telling myself when I realize I have so few dates... I sound like a drunkard =( I really don't drink all that much. Sundays are really my only night out. I'll shut up now and slink off to my doctor's appointment.... Loves and hugs, - On Mon, 20 Dec 2004 08:11:41 -0600, Kukuzke wrote: > Hi all. Thought I would add my 2 cents on this topic. Guest guest
hmmm, that's interesting now that you point it out. I never drank much, well, for the last 23 years that is. However, about 2 years ago I started very heavily. I would buy this liquor, Fighting Cock, 103 proof and drink the bottle that day. Couldn't sleep until it was gone. I would buy about 5 a week. One day at a family party I got so drunk, obviously, and cursed my daughter out, "F this and F that". you get the point. I never knew I did it but my cousin who is more like a brother to me, told me the next day "mag, you really were out of control yesterday at the party. You were F'in Becky left and right. It was not good. Not good at all" and I quit. Shortly thereafter I was dx with fibro and to this day I can barely finish a beer. Just no desire or no tolerance for alcohol. Never put 2 + 2 together. hmmmm. Thanks for pointing that out!! Margaret, mom to the monsters RE: re: alcohol tolerance Hi all. Thought I would add my 2 cents on this topic. Guest guest
OK now this is interesting, I too have an alcohol intolerance... But not all alcohol, only the grain based, like rum, whiskey, beer... I am ok with wine, but don't really like it, gin [from juniper berries], vodka from potatoes... As a matter of fact I have a severe intolerance to anything wheat based whether white or dark... means no cakes, no pie crust, no pizza, no lots of things... no hambergers on buns... Ya I know there are alternatives but they either taste horrible or cost tooo much... I have discovered that lots of things, including pnut butter and jelly taste pretty good on tostados and it i am in the mood, on rice cakes... I may have a gluten allergy know as celiac and I know my grandmother and my son have them too so it is probably hereditary....
