Hi

Mindy,……my Dr. seemed to think the swelling was as you read. I just

thought it strange that for all these years I’ve had foot drop, and my

legs have had mild swelling that it seems all of a sudden my foot/ankle should

have chronic swelling now. Also only in 1 leg, if it was caused from atrophy

then it would be in both legs/feet wouldn’t it?

That’s

why I was thinking maybe I have developed arthritis or something else because the

bones/joints on top of my foot under the swelling is very painful.

I know

the muscles can atrophy, but I am still walking even though stiff legged, and I

thought if you had increased tone the muscles didn’t atrophy?

Well hopefully

after the weather gets cooler I can get to the foot Dr. to find out what he

says. They didn’t give me any indication that they weren’t familiar

with foot drop in MS, so maybe he will be able to tell by looking at it. They

have an x-ray machine you stand on, so that’s kind of cool. J

Smiles,

Jackie

swelling....

Foot swelling is not uncommon in MS patients. As your

leg muscles

weaken (atrophy) they can't sustain the strength to move the body

fluids so ankles swell, etc. Best thing to do is keep your feet

up. I get this several times a year and never correlated it to MS

until I read an article in the MS Society's journal.

Good luck.
