Guest guest Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I had a Dr. Pain for my very first dentist too. I was probably about 6 or so, and I was really afraid of the needles, and I would cry, and he would tell me to shut up, and then proceed to work on my teeth before the Novocain was all the way done numbing me. To this day I have a really hard time getting to the dentist. I am kinda okay once I get there even though I white knuckle the arm of the chair, and I’m usually on the verge of a meltdown anxiety attack……..EVEN with really really nice gentle dentists!! Talk about childhood trauma…….. lol….. My kids have no fear of dental procedures at all. My son has had extractions when the Novocain didn’t work for him. He felt every bit of it. and…….he has a low threshold for pain! Poor kid……! I went there to have an initial consultation. I heard her with that little boy and was outraged. She doesn't allow parents to go back with their children, ya know. When I left I told the waiting room " who ever has a child in the back by himself really should insist on joining him " . A woman jumped up, looking alarmed and went back (amid protests from the front office gals). My adult son went to Dr. Pain and she pulled a tooth without giving him enough Novocaine (Oh that doesn't hurt! she said). It was a bad tooth and she had to dig it out (probably enjoyed it). He left there in shock. He was found later laying on his couch shaking and in true shock. He hadn't gotten his pain scripts or anything. Challis said I have an aversion to dental visits. LOL... When I was about 9 years old I went to a dentist who was a former ARMY dentist. He pulled my tooth without telling me what he was doing and without proper Novocaine. That can set a person up for a lifetime of dental fears. I went through years only going to a dentist when I had no other choice. Until I met that wonderful, soft-spoken dentist Challis talks about. Gentle manner and gentle man. I had ALL my dental work done and I needed a bunch. My insurance paid a good part of it but I still owed $1,000 or so. He said he wouldn't send me any bills and not to worry about paying it because he knew I was on disability. I have some dental work that needs to be done now but I'm waiting until I can get back up to see that wonderful, gentle dentist. Sharon (MSersLife creator/owner) Keep true to the dreams of thy youth. Guest guest Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Speaking of dentist,...I went to the dentist Thursday to have alot of dental work. One of the teeth that was extracted was abscessed and they couldn't get it numb. The dentist gave me about 13 shots around it with no success. I had to sit in that chair and have it extracted with nothing to help the pain. Felt every bit of it. I already had a phobia about dentist since I had a terrible experience when I was only three. ( had an infected eye tooth and the dentist had to go through the roof of my mouth with a hook without being numbed to release pressure) Now I don' t think I can ever return to a dentist again. My face is terribly swollen, I am only able to eat soft food, and am living off of darvoset!!!! Trimm wrote: That gets me every time. Guest guest Posted July 18, 2006 Report Posted July 18, 2006 Challis, I am feeling somewhat better now.Thank you for asking. Although I have Acute Inflammatory Arthritis in my jaw and all the tugging and stress made it hurt also. (I was born with a broke or dislocated jaw that went unnoticed until I was a teen) I have been on darvoset since Thursday. I wouldn't wish what happened to me on my worse enemy. Seriously both bad experiences will stay with me for a lifetime. And to be honest my trust in dentist is shot. What also concerns me is that the abscess grew around my nerves and they aren't sending the cyst or tumor to a pathologist. As far as the smell I am sorry I can't help you with that. It does smell terrible. But I only wish that was the only thing that bothered me about dentist. Have a nice day DanaAkiba wrote: Tooth enamel Peace and Blessings ~*~ Akiba ~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://yodamamma.blogspot.com/ http://www.solay-twinflames.com -- RE: Dentists Ouch! OMGoodness.
