I'm starting to see a strong correlation between my well being and nutrition. I knew it theoretically, but am starting to learn it personally. I ate monstrously badly this weekend. I knew I was doing it, and seemed unable to do otherwise.

Last night I started reading "Potatoes not Prozac". I am today looking into joining a local food coop and have determined to try to learn a little bit about juicers.

Has anyone heard of Dr. Barnard Jensen? I met a lady yesterday morning who uses his supplements, and I find after doing a search on the internet that he has written a book on juicing.

What juicers are recommended? Is there any way around investing a great deal of $ into one? I do not have the funds to buy one right now I don't think, but am hoping that changes in the near future.

Hi Pat,

I'm so glad you're feeling the importance of nutrition on a physical

level. That made such a difference for me.

When I came into the group I thought I was eating fairly well but I

really wasn't. At first I read the nutritional stuff and

thought, " oh yeah, right, like this is really going to change

anything in a major way " . But I was feeling so terrible I decided

to give it a try. At first I did a lot of slipping -- a chocolate

bar here, diet soda there -- and the sugar cravings were terrible.

But then I began to feel so much bettter physically and emotionally

and it became easier to stick with it.

I believe it was the nutrition and supplements that really started

to turn things around for me. I feel so much stronger now. The

supplements recommended for me really helped during the

drug tapering that I had left to do. My physical reactions to the

remaining taper became much less intense or stressful. I even slept

during the first two nights of a cut which was a new one for me!

I hope you'll continue to enjoy the food changes. You will notice

such a difference -- I suffered from migraines, soemtimes 3-4 per

week, and I am only getting 1-2 per month now. I'm totally

convinced it's the food!

Hi , Coops are so great. To me they are like the heartbeat of natural foods. I have belonged to two in the past but there are none around here. I buy from the health food store which is expensive. Do you have a freecycle group near you? It is a yahoo list by city or town where people post stuff they want to give away and other people post what they are looking for. I know it sounds kind of icky to get a used juicer, but if you cleaned it super good it might be okay for awhile, just to get started. The problem with cheap juicers is that they spin too fast, create too much heat, and kill the vitamins and enzymes. However, I used a $45 juicer for awhile years ago, just to make carrot-celery-apple juice, and I swear I felt better at the time. So I think even a cheap juicer is better than none. Anyway, I'm glad you are

finding the connection between what we eat and how we feel. I wish I hadn't had to learn it all the hard way, but at least I've learned. is having me keep a food journal right now and boy is it an eyeopener. I was already eating very healthy, yet eating foods that were aggravating me. It helps to see it in black and white. So far the food that stands out the most as bothering me is peanuts and cashews. I'm not sure about almonds. They might be okay, but I ran out and it is too expensive to buy more. Keep us posted about the juicer. BTW since Potatoes not Prozac was first written the author changed the order of steps 1 and 2. Breakfast with protein is now step 1 and the food journal is step 2. She realized people were better able to record their food with breakfast in their tummies.
