Guest guest
Hi katiesmom- My name is Valene. You can call me Val if you'd like. I'm still kinda new here also. Have you made an appointment to see your neurologist? If not, you should. It does sound like a flare up to me. I know from experience, the sooner you start getting treatment, the better off you are. MS is still somewhat of a mystery to me...I've had it for 20+ years. In my case, there are some symptoms that never totally go away. They do become somewhat more tolerable. I have RRMS, so I have relapses and remissions. Each relapse is different than the last. Everyday is a learning process. You came to the right place. I have not only found good people here, but they are very intelligent as well. I'd like to welcome you to the group! Blessed be....Valene -- Re: Welcome our newest member! katiesmom thanks for the welcome! I was told that I have MS three years ago, and probably have had it for many years, although my symptoms have been mild up till now. Recently, however, I've been experiencing an exacerbation or flare-up or acute episode--I'm not even sure what it is. I am eager to learn more about this disease, and to learn from others who have and are experiencing it. Robin>> I would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest member here at MSersLife! Guest guest
thanks for your note, Valene. I am hoping to make an appointment on Monday. It is difficult right now as I am in Germany (Bochum) on a visiting fellowship for the year, and it has been difficult for me to access healthcare: I don't have a car here, I don't speak much German, and I don't know who to ask to get the names of neurologists who specialize in MS. I do have one friend here (from England) who also has MS and she suggested I see her doctor. Unfortunately, he is far outside the city and they do not speak English in the office. She said she would help me make the appointment (she is fluent with German) and drive me there, but I hate to be such a bother to someone else. Guest guest
Robin, I can understand you not wanting to be a burden on anyone right now, but you are in an unfamiliar place. If your friend doesn't mind helping you to get to the doctor and translating for you, I think you should take her up on her offer. I know how hard it is. Believe me, I used to be in so much denial, that it took a really bad experience with this disease to finally wake me up and get the help I needed. I really messed up. If I had been getting treatment much sooner I believe I might be in a little better shape than I am now. Another thing that kept me from getting the treatment I needed was the fact that I lost my job due to this disease. I became broke and nearly homeless. If it wasn't for my good friend I would have lost everything. He has supported me for the last 7yrs.,giving me a roof over my head and food in my belly. But, even so, he couldn't provide everything. I contacted the MS society and was led to a very nice woman who referred me to the MS Life Lines. It was there that I was able to get the medicine that I needed. I hope you are able to get the help that you need. If there is anything that I can do to help, let me know and I will do my best to help. The way I look at it is, we are all in this together. We need to each other out as much as possible. Have a blessed day... -- Re: Welcome our newest member!> katiesmom> > thanks for the welcome! Guest guest
thanks, Val. I appreciate your supportive words. I have gone ahead and called my friend, and she will help me make an appointment tomorrow morning. HOpefully, I will be able to get in to see the doctor quickly!
