& Paxil

Hi all,

First of all I would like to thank everyone for their advice when I was

asking about paxil 5 or 6 weeks ago. started taking Paxil for anti

anxiety (she calls it her " bothering medicine " , because it helps with

everything that bothers her) about 4 weeks ago. I would like to share with

you what the last month has been like. Let me start by saying had a

behaviour chart, and a typical day at school would be crying or loosing

it about 5-10 times a day for various reasons such as announcements on the

loud speaker, Men in the room, Music in class, Animals on her worksheets,

etc, etc. Her aid would usually take her out of the room for 2-20 minutes

depending on how bad it was.

Week 1 was nothing out of the ordinary, the medicine hadn't kicked in yet.

Week 2 was a good week, maybe the fits and issues would be cut down to 2-3

times a day.

Week 3 was amazing, NO BAD BEHAVIORS the entire week. all of a sudden by the

end of the week she had more firends in class, she was able to concentrate on

her work better, we even got a call from her teacher that Thursday evening

saying how wonderful she has been and that 2 boys were actually fighting over

her wanting to be her buddy for an activity.

Week 4 has gotten even better--This past Monday after school I took her to a

toy store and she decided she wanted to buy a cassette tape (for those of you

who don't know , she has always been totally freeked out by music

playing out loud, If we were listening to the news in the car and a

commercial came on she would be crying and harping on the music for days). We

bought the tape of Kate and 's Sleepover Party and she not only

listened to it in the car on the way home, but didn't want to get out of the

car when we arrived home. Wednesday morning when I dropped her off at school

she was met by two girls from her class who gave her big hugs and each held

one of her hands and went to the playground with her. For the most part all

of her " issues " are gone. She would never wear clothes with faces on them,

animals, fish, Barbie, etc. Now she will wear all these. She used to run off

if she was out of our sight, now she stays with us. Today we went to a

birthday party for one of the boys in her class, it was at a big overcrowded

play space, and she did great, she even did rock climbing. If we didn't stay

with her she would have been just fine.

I guess the reason for the letter is in case anybody else was thinking of

going this route. I have never been one for medicating children, but we've

seen no side effects, and tremendous advantages.
