Guest guest
To all; I am posting this on both lists because someone might have an answer. A client recently has been notified that their patient has a $40 copay when seen in a professional office setting (place of service code 11). In reviewing the place of service codes, they wondered if place of service code 49 would be more appropriate. I looked up the place of service code 49 in my 2004 AMA CPT code book and there is not such Place of Service. However, they are using an Ingenix Code book and it lists the following description: #49 Independent Clinic-This is a location that is not part of the Hospital and not described by any other POS code that is operated and organized to provide preventive, disagnostic, theraputic, rehabilative, or palliative services to outpatients only. So now, here are my two questions: 1. Does anyone know why Ingenix would have this place of service listed and AMA would not (I thought AMA was the industry leader in this type of stuff). 2. Has anyone sucessfully used place of service code 49 and was your reimbursement any different than when you used POS 11? Thank you for your time and attention to this!
